Swelling after workouts- help to reduce?

Hello

I’m wondering if anyone has insight on swelling after workouts and ways to reduce this uncomfortable bloat? I notice it a lot on heavy leg/squat days and days where I do long runs. Is this indicating a nutritional deficiency if my salt intake is not excessive? Or need more rest? Not sure how to take it but very uncomfortable and stomach distress are the two symptoms that keep popping up for me. Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you!!

More information could be helpful, because any number of things could be going on depending on the details of what you're experience. (I know this stuff is hard to talk about, but frank talk is accepted here, and sometimes necessary for clarity.)

Can you be more specific: Do you mean swelling in the most-used muscle groups, whole body puffiness, abdominal swelling (since you mention stomach distress), or something else?

By "stomach distress", do you mean nausea, gas, pain without a clear cause, reflux, constipation?

Are you relatively new to working out?

    How's your hydration?

@AnnPT77 thank you for your response. I’m definitely not new to working out, but this “reaction” has been going on for a few months now.

Swelling is systemic but definitely notice in my ankles (both have been broken multiple times), stomach and even my face :/

The stomach pain feels like gas. It may also be helpful to know that it feels like it throws my hunger cues off for the day after I work out. I feel very full and only have cravings for sugar (which I try to avoid as I know it will only make the above worse).

Thank you again for any ideas you may have.

I think you should talk to your doctor about your swelling after workouts.

Given those details, I'm going to second the "talk to your doctor" idea. Make the appointment.

While you are waiting for the appointment date to arrive, make sure you're keeping workouts in the easy/moderate intensity range, staying well hydrated, balancing your electrolytes (not just salt). Consider whether you may be breathing so hard that you're swallowing air (improbable but possible), and experiment with changing the timing of eating around your workout, most specifically making sure there's a good interval between eating and the workout.

In addition to what @AnnPT77 said/asked - are you taking any supplements pre/intra/post workout that are new to your regimen?

Def talk to your doctor; if possible in the meantime can you also check your blood pressure (pre/post training)? It may also be beneficial for your doctor to know how much swelling you're experiencing - take before/after photos and, if possible, weigh yourself before working out and then again when your swelling is at its peak? Just so s/he can have a grasp as to the extent of what you're experiencing.
