Huge Calorie Deficit A Problem?

I have seen a few posts on here about this. I wanted to get the community's perspective on this.
If it says I need to be at 1800...and I consume 1200-1400 per day...am I going to hurt my progress?
If so...why? I am trying to understand more about nutrition so any advice would be much appreciated.

The 1800 MFP gives has your deficit built in. So if you say you want to lose 2 lbs a week your calorie goal goes from 2800 to 1800. If you then only eat 1200 calories you've made your deficit 1600. If you have 100+ lbs to lose that might be okay for awhile, otherwise it's just too aggressive.

You'll lose weight this way. Some downsides are of applying this long term are:
1) More of the weight will come from lost muscle mass compared to a slow loss.
2) You risk hormonal problems. Your thyroid may slow down, and your testosterone may drop. If you're lucky, it will come back when you eat more. Would you like to know if you're lucky?
3) It's easier to have gaps in your nutrition when you eat so little0
