Is it unusual to feel sore 3 days after a workout? What I mean by this is up until today I've felt no pain.

I noticed that too. I'm still suffering from the workout I did Saturday and Sunday, and yet after the workout on those days I felt fine...it wasn't until late on Monday-Tuesday I started to feel sore.

  • Doms = delayed onset muscle soreness. Personally love it, you know you did the job. When this happens I just workout other muscle groups. After a long layoff I have felt pain for up to 4 days. Remember working out tears your muscle fibers. The pain is just your body recovering. Learn to love it.

I am never sore from my cardio days, but with heavy lifting, DOMS never seems to go away. (although it lessens to an extent on rest days). I am starting to think that eating on a deficit might prolong the soreness as opposed to eating more calories that the body can use for faster repair.

Am I off base thinking that way ? I can function with the minor soreness, and I even workout with it ( magically disappears when working out, and after as well). I don't think its hindering me in any way other than being annoying once in a while.

You're correct, if you ate at a surplus your muscles will repair faster. If your goal is more muscle mass then eat more. DOMs are the bestest.

Not to thread hijack but I am not trying to build muscle...I have about 80 lbs of 'stored energy' to use up first...

However I do not want to lose what muscle mass I have hence heavy lifting.
