Thanks Garmin!

Sometimes when you're doing something rhythmic that takes concentration, you get into a state of "flow" and time stands still for you. But not for the rest of reality.

We've had historic snowfall over the last week or so. Both of our passes through the Cascades have been closed for several days, with people stranded up there.

So I skied a more remote side country area, one of the places I knew I'd be able to ski without hiking first. I love hiking but we don't have much daylight this time of year and need to spend it wisely.

I fell into "time stands still for you" mode and was grateful to have the sunset alarm feature, and to have turned it on. My watch started buzzing before my planned turn around point telling me I had 45 minutes until sunset. I was a lot faster on the way back because my tracks were smoothed out, but still got to my car as twilight faded.

Tip: bring a head lamp in the winter and top the battery off on the way to the trail. 🙂

Staying alive and well/uninjured for sure makes the next workout a lot more fun. Good advice.

ETA: Amazing view, too! My state is too flat for visual purposes, but I guess it makes Winter driving a little less fraught.

I didn't know about that feature. I'll check it out. Will be useful on my evening runs. I'm leaving them later and later because of the heat. (Southern hemisphere, hot, hot 🔥🔥 summer here)
