Excerpt from a conversation with my husband...

So, my husband and I are back to both working from home (temporarily), after both (briefly - very briefly in my case) going back to the office. This afternoon the following conversation ensued.
Me: I'm going to get something to eat. Want anything?
Him: What are you having?
Me: I'm going to make some tea. I think there's a cucumber in there, but it's been there for a while and may have gone bad. If it's still good I'll chop it up and have it with some sliced carrots. If it's gone bad, I don't know. Probably still carrots and something else.
Him - looks at me in silence for about 30 seconds.: That sounds boring. Healthy, but boring.
Me: Well?
Him: There are vanilla fudge drumsticks in the freezer.
... and now I only have 97 calories left for the day. But there are no longer drumsticks in the freezer.

You don't have to eat the drumsticks. My husband and I eat only 1 meal together and everything else is different. He has a stash of cookies and chocolate and sometimes ice cream, that I may or may not ever touch. I happily snack on veggies or fruit and yogurt and iced coffee, he does not. Stick to your goals. You can make room for treats.5

Well, compared to an old, possibly rotten cucumber...the drumsticks would be a more tempting choice.
There is a middle ground here. Stock up on snacks that you actually like and will fit in your calorie budget. Then, you'll be less likely to go for the foods that don't fit your daily goal.
You don't have to deprive yourself of treats and eat only carrots and rotten cucumbers. Remember that you have to learn to eat in a way that you can sustain for the rest of your life. And for most people, that means figuring out how to eat the foods that you like in moderation and still reach your goal.5 -
(BTW - the cucumber wasn't any good.)3

I'm your husband. Well, not literally, obviously.
How was the conversation AFTER the drumsticks?

How about those mini- drumstick ice cream bars, mini- ice cream sandwiches- etc-- there are tons which can fit in our calorie allowance- or nonfat greek yogurt with fruit parfaits, or thoselittle jello cups or pudding cups etc.1
