Knee replacement

I am 70 years old.
Very active in the gym for almost 50 years.
I had knee replacement surgery 7 months ago.
I am now doing squats on a smith machine with 135lbs, 4 sets 12 reps, full range. I also do 4 sets 15 reps, leg extensions.
The key is to push as safely and as hard as you can during rehab. Very painful and uncomfortable, but I was not going to let this surgery stop me, just slowed me down a little.
I still have some tightness going down stairs and lack total confidence, but it’s coming slowly.
I also was diagnosed for a left knee replacement, but with the strengthening of my replaced knee I am back to being more balanced and at this point both my knees are functional and tolerable.
Hang in there.

I was very active in martial arts for about 25 years back in the day, but got away from it and got overweight and out of shape. I got a total knee replacement five years ago and my other knee looks like it is overdue to be replaced on X-ray, but it doesn't bother me, so I haven't had it done.
10 months ago at age 68 I decided to implement a bucket list item and get back into martial arts training and started classes in Muay Thai kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I really enjoy it, I'm starting to gain some real proficiency in a few aspects of it (plenty more still to master) and I haven't had any knee problems. I wear neoprene knee braces to put some compression and heat on the joints during workouts and I only go as far as I can with knee-challenging moves.
I feel really good after each workout. I have a dopamine high and a real feeling of accomplishment. What is really satisfying is there are some aspects of it where I can outdo lean young guys in their late teens and 20s. They are in better shape than I am, but I have two secret weapons: 1) I have some skills from years past that they don't expect I have. AND 2) I will keep going when the going gets tough. They will sometimes wimp out and I'll just keep plowing through.1 -
You post is very inspiring!
I didn't get a knee replacement but have had to get some injections - replacement is likely in my future but it's being delayed for the time being.
I'm glad to hear you're still doing those squats! Keep up the good work!0
