Body Adaption

Hi,

The past two months I’ve been at home for winter break, where I was doing 30 minutes of HIIT and an hour long walk four days per week. I also did quick 15 minute CrossFit style weight sessions four days a week. Even though I didn’t decrease my calories from 1700, which is what I eat to maintain, I ended up losing a little bit of weight.

I’d like to maintain the lean physique, but I’m back at university now where I simply don’t have that kind of time to dedicate solely to exercise. So, I’m aware that might be slightly unrealistic. I just don’t want to gain a lot of weight back.

Right now, my goal is to do about 30 minutes of weights 3 days a week followed by a 30 minute walk, and then treadmill sprints two days a week for 30 minutes. Do you think this is an adequate enough swap for the activity I was doing at home? It feels like not a lot compared to what I was doing, and I don’t know how the body tends to adapt to changes like this, I also work a retail job while I’m here. It’s very slow, but I am standing for about three hours.

Thanks!

It might be. All you can do is what works for you and see what happens.

You lost weight because you increased activity which made your 1700 calorie maintenance to no longer be maintenance for your activity. You can maintain where you are so long as your calorie intake is commensurate with your current activity. You will be less active back at school, so you would have to adjust your calories for that.
