Hiking calories burned too high?

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone else was feeling like cross-country hiking is a little too high in the MFP database. Its kicking my butt but at the same time I feel like the burn in the database is extraordinarily high. Substituting with walking seems a little too low of a calorie burn for the level of hiking I've been doing (we're climbing rocks, mountains, and navigating pretty uneven terrain).
Has anyone checked this with a heart rate monitor or anything? Have any thoughts on the matter?

I've used these calculators when I was tracking calories:

http://www.nwhiker.com/calorieburn.html
And just sort of average the results if they disagreed.0 -
Awesome. Thank you!0

I noticed the same thing. I use the Runkeeper app on my phone while I'm hiking, and then I take the average of MFP and Runkeeper.0
