Good afternoon Everyone! My name is Sharon and I’m new here. I have probably joined my fitness pal a dozen times over the years, stayed for a week or two, and then fizzled out of existence.

I have tried just about any weight loss program/ app out there…. And yet I’m no closer to my goal weight/fitness level this year than I was the year before.

Now I know some other people would say the plan “wasn’t made for me” or that “it just wasn’t right for my life” … but seriously it’s my lack of commitment that has been the problem. I had to do some thinking and reflecting today and I came to the conclusion that MY LIFE wasn’t fitting my fitness plans!

So I’m here today, 299Lbs , about to be 30 in June… and I’m changing everything in my life that isn’t conducive to me dropping weight and getting fit!! I’d love for some friends to watch and support each other on the way to our healthier lives!

I’m going to be starting a YouTube vlog to really give me a place to vent and to discuss a lot of the changes that will be going on during my journey- if anyone would like to watch/ follow there as well, you can message me for details. I’m not 100% sure if the public guidelines here let’s us plug other social links or if it’s against the rules.

    Hello, and welcome (back)!

My understanding is that it's against community guidelines here to post other of our social media links on the public part of the Community, but that Groups can have different rules, and we would have more flexibility on our timeline & PMs.

I'd be cautious about encouraging others to "message you for details" because that seems to be how people selling things approach reaching out to other people, though I'm sure you wouldn't do that.

Me, I'm a great believer in a no-program approach. On both eating and exercise fronts, I started where I was, tweaked my habits over time to get my eating where I wanted it (balancing calories, nutrition, satiation, enjoyment, and more); and started being more active with relatively enjoyable (to me) things that increased in challenge gradually as I got fitter. For me, that made it easier to stick with it: I wasn't depending on pedal to the metal, white-knuckled will power all of the time. Will power, motivation, commitment - not my strong suit, so I needed other tactics, personally.

That may not be best for everyone - some people seem motivated by making a huge and revolutionary life change - but it worked fine for me. (I'm in year 6+ at a healthy weight now, after 30 years or so of overweight/obesity before that, and my fitness is OK, I think, for a li'l ol' lady (I'm 66)).

I'm sending wishes for you that this will be your time for everything to come together, for you to achieve your weight loss and health goals. I wish I'd be smart enough to do that at age 30, like you, rather than waiting until much later in life - I could've avoided a lot of unpleasantness, if I had, I think.

    Best wishes for success!
