"If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly."

My new mantra! Let me explain, it means that even if you don't do it perfectly, keep working at it because it is worth doing, even badly. I blew my calorie count today, but I won't quit because I will stay in it tomorrow. I didn't get to do 3 workouts this week. Two is better than none, keep trying. This quote that I read from somewhere really resonated with me. Thought I would share for anyone else that may need a little grace. Just say this to yourself and keep trying!

Absolutely. If I can't make some mistakes, then why try? I've messed up more than once, delaying (at this point, several times) my weight loss, but what would I weigh if I just threw in the towel and gave up? Much more, I suspect. Good for you for figuring out what helps keep you on track. It's those little things, I think, that help us to keep going forward so that we can eventually build in new habits. I spent my 20s and 30s using the "Why bother? Clearly I'm supposed to be fat" thought process. Then I tried something new in my 40s and holy smokes, I lost the weight. Covid derailed me a little, but with each day, I am working my way back to better health. Keep it up, OP! Something is always better than nothing. If I tell myself that, then I can usually do "something" each day :)

Perfect is the enemy of the good.
  • Absolutely. “Baby steps.” Two steps fwd one step back. “If you can’t fly, then run, can’t run then walk, can’t walk then crawl… but whatever you do keep moving forward” (MLK)

    Great thread and great comments.
