I was able to lose roughly 56 pounds last year! MyFitnessPal was an essential tool in my health journey, not only as a self-accountability tool, but as a platform for motivation and support I never had. If anyone would like to post their 1 year transformations, I think, it would greatly help motivate those of us who feel, at times, that losing weight and taking the first steps are the most difficult. This discussion group can be yet another way for us to come together and share our success stories for others to see and comment on.

Welp guess this is me. I just turned 50 and I have lost 31kg in the past year (68lb) Started Jan 2021. I was 106kg (233lb) and starting to notice that everyday things were getting so hard. Getting up hurt. I had to hold on walking down stairs. My core strength was gone. Completely. I carry all my weight in middle and torso so finding clothes was getting very hard and I was living in tents and tights. I decided that I needed to lose weight to be able to get strong and healthy before it became too late.
I counted calories. I failed a few times. I over ate. I went on holiday.. I gained, freaked out and pulled myself back into line. Reminded that my kids are watching. I am as of today. The lightest I have ever been since my teens. It feels surreal. I don't know what the next year will hold as I continue to lose weight and work out more (I havn't done a lot workout wise yet) I don't know what weight I will end up at.. as I have never got here before. But I am excited to find out. I have just starting skin diving again and paddleboarding and I freaken love it. Skating and pole dancing lessons are on the cards for the next 6 months. I feel strong. I am regaining my core strength. Its worth it. And there are sooooooooooo many lovely yummy fresh and healthy foods out there I had no idea.

I loved reading your updates. It is so inspiring. I am 40 and the biggest I have ever been in my life. I don’t like the weight and want to get rid of it and live a healthier life. But I have been stopping and starting a lot over last year. I put a lot of effort into the Keto diet last summer, lost some weight and then put it all back on slowly when I started eating carbs again. My biggest downfall is time. I don’t have the time to invest in weight loss ie read up about things, prepare healthy food regularly, try new recipes. I work in a demanding job, am single parent to two young girls and am going through a divorce. I tend to bulk cook something we can all eat for the week, over the weekend.
The key reason I have put on weight is emotional eating. I have been under immense stress last 5 years and have turned to food for comfort. As a result I have gained 4 stones!
January 2022 I decided that this is the year I will lose weight, even if really really slowly. So I have been trying to practice mindful eating since Jan. I am still eating same foods for now but eating when I am hungry and trying to listen to cues from my stomach when I am full and stopping. So getting familiar with hunger and full signals from my body. This has helped me with emotional eating somewhat so far. Also I have started exercising for 15 mins when I can. That way it’s not a big pressure. And if one week life is too busy and I can’t fit it in, I am trying not to beat myself up.
Would be good to know how you first started your journey I.e. what things did you implement at the beginning?

We are all in this journey together so of course I can be someone you can reach out to just feel free to add me or anyone else for motivation and support! I haven’t quite lost as much as you have, but I underatand the challenges we face everyday trying to stay healthy and motivated to continue even when it seems impossible! Rencawdor24, I’m so glad you find inspiration and motivation from this thread. My hopes is that it can serve as a safe place for those of us looking to share their 1 year transformations and beyond, while still being able to ask questions and get information as to what others are doing to help give insight to different ideas on how to approach weight loss. For me, I just started out by doing 20 crunches every hour for about 2 weeks (not 20 crunches straight mind you, but just an hour to do a total of 20). Then, after about 2 weeks, I started implementing walking into my schedule (3 miles morning and then 3 miles at night at 3.0 mph rate roughly taking 1 hour on my treadmill and gradually increasing the incline which I still do). And after about 1 month of that I started going to the gym 3 days a week (now up to 5 days) just doing resistance training as well as working on strength. Of course my diet has had to evolve as well over the last year and I have had to learn how to balance eating out or whenever I have cravings and eating healthy while trying (key word “trying”) to stay in a calorie deficit. Supplement regiment can be another topic in itself, but basically that’s about how I started and where I currently am in my fitness journey. One change at a time. You didn't get here overnight. You wont lose it overnight.
The only other thing I did. Which is a bit odd. Is I didn't tell anyone I was on a diet. I didn't want the eyerolls and the vapid agreements they did not mean.

Here are my one-year transformation pictures. It all started with the picture on the very right. Looking at pictures after summer vacation trip and actually asking " how on earth did I get this big". (can tell you exactly how but I think it was gradual enough that I just didn't really notice until these pictures). Jumped back on MFP started including workouts and then about halfway through weight training. I am in maintenance now but still learning what that looks like for me.

So funny when I was at that weight my thought was how did I get this big?
Now that I have another 30 lbs on that, I cant wait to get back to the 170's. I am at my best in the high 140's. I can get there, just need some time.

You should be so proud of your achievements, it is amazing! Well done!!
In this beginning, I focus far less on "clean" or low carb eating, macros (or any of it, really) and instead focus solely on calories in-calories out. Cut your portions so that you can stay in a calorie deficit, and don't worry so much right now about diets, healthy recipes, etc. Getting started is the hardest part, and once you've got a few pounds off, and you feel more comfortable with your portions, you can begin to experiment here and there with healthier eating. Small changes will produce the biggest results long term. When you feel good about portion control, add in a couple days a week of manageable workouts. Don't overwhelm yourself. Once you have some exercise, add in a few more fruits and veggies and a few less carbs. Honestly, this isn't an all or nothing journey. I forget that sometimes and have to be reminded that sustainability is what matters.7 -

What a great post and what a great accomplishment! If anyone knows the work and dedication you have put in, it's certainly others that have gone through it as well!
Here is mine to add in. One year's time, Dec 2020 313 lbs vs Dec 2021 216 lbs I still have another 40 to 60 lbs to my goal, but I am so much happier than I was a year ago.54 -

To be clear, although this thread is for 1 year transformationals/ testimonials, I would encourage anyone to read the success stories of everyone that posts on here to find inspiration and motivation to continue and succeed in your own journey in health and fitness. I can’t stress enough how important it is to find peace of mind knowing you are not alone in this journey, not anymore. I’m still at the very beginning and finding it hard. I’ve come away this week and it’s has been impossible to continue. I will make a fresh start when I am back and I think I will start with portion size. And maybe eating one healthy evening meal a week.3 -

January 1, 2021 I finally had enough of just existing and decided to reapply myself to get healthier.
I knew how to do it, as back in 2015 I had lost 100 lbs using MFP got into the best physical health I had been as an adult, until I started getting excruciating joint pain after dealing with it for months was finally diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis. That news was crushing, why had I fought so hard. Fast forward a few years and I gained everything I had lost back plus an extra 50 or so pounds, now topping the scale on 1/1/2021 at 342 lbs. I couldn't walk more than 10 feet without being winded, always exhausted, always in extreme pain. Enough was enough. Log back into MFP, and start slow calories in/calories out. Stand up for at least a minute every hour at least 4 times a day. Be honest with myself, and no matter what log the good, bad and the super ugly.
After the first 3 months, I dropped about out of the 300s and was able to slowly up some activity, got a treadmill and walked for 5 minutes. Have increased that now to be able to do 2 - 3 miles over the course of the day and have dropped 120 lbs. So, my advice to anyone is just do small changes, be honest with yourself, and if you have a bad day, it's okay there's always tomorrow. need better pictures but this is one I did early this month.

Thank you! I've been hesitant to share because I wanted to focus on getting the work done, now that it's been over a year I'm ready to be a little more active in the forums. Thanks for sharing your story and for this thread, I can always use a little inspiration and motivation!
