Fitness watch

I'm looking for a general android fitness watch which also has a swimming function

I'm looking for something that measures calories burned, number of laps and distance swum as well as one that allows you to enter a custom pool length as the pool I swim in is 18m long

Would a samsung active watch be a good fit?

Just FYI - there is no measuring of calories burned.

There is calculated estimates of calories burned - and those estimates can be decent, or terrible.

There are some pretty known reasons for terrible estimates that can't be trusted.

Are you limited to just an Android watch? - as that field is very small, add in ones good for fitness, even worse selection to choose from.

If you allowed Garmin to be in the mix - you'd have some good swimming options.

I have a Garmin forerunner 245 and it will allow you to set the pool length, and it tells you the distance you swam.

do NOT buy a Samsung watch, especially if you plan to swim. I purchased a Samsung active 2 directly from Samsung over the summer 2021. Nice watch, as far as smart watches go...at least initially. TERRIBLE fitness tracker. I know calorie estimates on watches are just estimates, but this one is particularly bad. It only uses your heart rate to calculate calorie burn during walking and running...anything else it just gives you a generic figure based on weight/height etc. I could start a cardio workout on the couch and burn as many calories (per the watch) as I would intensely working out for an hour. Google this - it's a complaint everybody has about Samsung watches if they use them for fitness tracking. Also, the HR measurements during a workout are insane. My resting HR is usually 47-54. Per every fitbit I've ever had and my current Garmin, during an intense workout, I hover between 140-157. OCCASIONALLY I"ll hit 163-170, but not often. This watch was regularly measuring my HR during an intense workout at about 190-200. It's literally the worst fitness tracker I've ever had.

That's not even the worst part though. After 2 months, it literally fell apart. It started power cycling one day and wouldnt stop. After 30 minutes the battery finally died. I put it on the charger (also purchased from Samsung) and when I picked it up, the entire back fell off of the watch. The adhesive just disintegrated. I continued to wear it just as a watch for a short time, but none of the sensors worked anymore, and if I moved it off of my wrist it just fel apart in pieces. 2 months old , brand new...purchased from Samsung. I set up service for it, confirmed that it was still under warranty and were told multiple times they would take care of it. Boxed it up, sent it in....only to be told that it would be over $200 to repair (which is more than i paid for it since it was on sale) because the warranty didn't cover "liquid damage". I didn't swim or shower with it, didn't do dishes with it....nothing. It may have been splashed while washing my hands or something, but thats it. I explained that and was told that "liquid damage" can come from sweat and humidity and that I should not wear it when I was sweating

So. A water resistant watch, marketed as "active" with fitness tracking functions, that is to be usable under water...cant be worn while sweating. Preposterous. I refused to fix it, they mailed it back t me and I threw it away and bought a Garmin Venu 2s and am happy with it but was out all what i paid for jus 2 months before.

Don't buy a Samsung watch. Just trust me. Google any of this and you'll find a million similar stories, it's not just me.

But my Garmin is great...not nearly as cool and flashy as the samsung, but functions a million times better

I have a Garmin 735XT and it is set up for triathletes. It's great for cycling, running and swimming. I have a older model, but I've had no complaints in the last 5 years.

I have a garmin venu and love it. I've used it for lap swimming. I'm pretty sure you can set the pool length. The only thing I wish it would do is an open water swim. The more expensive garmins do that.

I bought a Garmin Fenix 7s, which apparently does this decently. The old 6s that I won at some time did so wonderfully (but it was completely rubbish for running). It never had a problem recognizing laps and got them right every time. But like others said: calorie burn is not measured, it's estimated. And that depends on how close your exercising heartrate is to a population average and a few other things, next to how a tracker maker implemented it. Could work, could be totally rubbish.
