That's it I'm gonna do it!

I've decided that I'm gonna train for a marathon! The marathon is September 25th so I have plenty of time to really start training. I'm scared I'm excited I'm nervous I'm determined. I've always wanted to do something like this and I'm finally gonna take the steps I need to take to do it! Gonna be a long 8 1/2 months but I guess let the training begin!

    Do you have a plan? Are you starting from scratch or building on a good base? Are you a novice runner or more intermediate with several half marathons under your belt?

    What you are doing isn't easy. It will take a lot of time and energy and a commitment to do what you need to do to get to the finish line happy.

    I used to be a runner but it's been awhile and practically starting from scratch. You can enroll in the race up to the day before the entree fee is more after July 1st so around then I'm gonna see where I'm at. If I don't feel I'm far enough I'm gonna cut it to a half a marathon. I know it's gonna be alot of work but I'm hoping to get back to that old endurance I had years ago. We will see. But I'ma train for a full and be happy with a half!

    As a used to be runner, who is now starting from scratch too, actually doing c25k... It is not easy to pickup where you once were before you stopped.

    That is a large goal. I am quite sure I would not meet that goal. However, I am older, very unfit, and do not want to incur any injuries. I do hope to be able to maybe do a half in a year. I am flexible in my goal and will follow my fitness level to determine.

    However, with it being a big goal, doesnt mean it is not obtainable for you. It is highly an individual thing as some people have more natural athletic abilities and are able to advance leaps and bounds over some like me, who has little natural athletic gifts :/

    I have a friend that in high school was in track, athletic and fit. Fast forward 10 yrs, kids, unfit and overweight. She lost a large amount of weight in 6 months, started running again, and within 3 months she was doing half marathons and within 5 months doing full marathons. This is an exception to most, but an example for some. (BTW fast forward another 20 yrs and she is still running marathons, has completed 2 iron mans, etc. She is the most fit person I know)

    Good luck and I hope you meet your goals. In the event that the goal was not reached, do not give up.. It can be reached, just might take a little more time.

    Depending on how long of a break you've taken you may find that your running fitness comes back fairly quickly.

    Assuming that your goal is finishing upright & smiling rather than an ambitious finish time I think it's doable.

    I slacked off from my running terribly during the pandemic, I seemed to have lost my motivation with no in-person racing, but when I signed up for a half-marathon this coming May I downloaded Hal Higdon's app "Run with Hal" which has taken me through a good base training phase and my actual training plan starts in March. Well structured and, so far, injury free.

    Sign up now. Don't give yourself a way out. Be patient. It will sometimes seem like you can't do it but you can.
