Looking to Lose 80 lb...

Hi,

Just wanted to drop in here and introduce myself. I'm 34, live outside D.C., and have a girl starting first grade and a 2-year-old boy. I was always a relatively healthy weight until I had some shall we say "issues" with depression and overeating in my 20s. I've moved on and am doing a lot better --- but the weight's been stuck between 210 and 220 (eek) since 2005 or so. I'd been telling myself it was no big deal, but earlier this summer I just got tired of it. Tired of not being able to find clothes that fit, tired of not being able to keep up with my kids, tired of always feeling like the biggest woman in the room. So I decided to actually make a real effort to change my weight. I started my diet on Aug. 5 and have lost seven pounds so far.

I've set a short-term goal of getting down to 180 by the end of the year. If I get there and I'm still feeling pretty good, I'll try to get down to 140. I know that's still pretty heavy for 5'5", but it's what I weighed when I was 18; I don't have the genes to be superskinny.

So ... that's me. I'm looking forward to getting to know the rest of you!

Hi and welcome to MFP! It's great that you want to make a change! I've been here since April and I feel so much better after losing 40-plus pounds, I can't even believe it! You can do this, just start with baby steps - log what you eat & try to do some type of exercise for a little while every day (walk, swim, you-tube workouts, old-school calisthenics, etc.) Just stick with a plan and don't quit!

I just joined a group to lose 20# by Nov1st. We had our first weigh-in on Friday, but I don't think it's too late to join. Maybe it will help you stay on track?

Best of luck to you, and I'm sending a friend request!

Hi there! Sounds like we are in the same boat. :) I have 2 small boys, 4 and almost 2. I'm trying to lose about 95 pounds with a goal weight of 140. I've just been back on MFP for about 2 months and have lost 10 pounds so far. If you are looking for friends on here you can add me I haven't really found any friends on here yet. Would be nice to have someone thats in a similar situation to follow. :)

Awww, thanks! I'm trying to exercise every day. My husband walks in the evening and I've taken to joining him every night, and do yoga videos if it's too hot/rainy or if there's too much to do around the house. It's more fun than I expected.

I'll take a look at the 20 lb. by November group!
