What do ya'll think about this article? I personally think it is crazy but I guess it is just the wave of the future. I wonder if this would eliminate the DUI or the sleepy driver or the road rage..

I will be telling my grandchildren, "When I was your age I had to drive the car myself. I controlled the gas and the brake and the steering wheel all on my own. The 'automatic' car just meant you didn't have to stick shift and use a clutch...
Can I just put my kid in the car and program it to take her to school and then come back to get me and take me to work?

So many possibilities...but still crazy!

I enjoy driving and pissing off other drivers too much to ever let my car do the driving.

i can see a day where it will be mandatory for highways. so get used to taking slow back roads for long trips.

oh yay...can't wait until I'm 80 and flip the finger and say "you f***ing autonomous...you almost....oh wait, you did right...nevermind"

and don't get me started on what a NASCAR race might be like in 30 years. how boring will that be? lol

When two autonomous vehicles got into an accident, who pays? I mean, even if it's my car, I'm not the one driving. If the robot has a hiccup and it hits another car, it's not my fault. Would the robot manufacturer pay?

Yep! Seriously, I am a gear head and love driving, but I could do without the drudgery of dealing with traffic everyday and drive only when I am on back roads where I can enjoy myself or at the race track.

I'm not a control freak by any means but I do like control. I don't know if I would be able to give that up...

there will be so much data available it will be easy to see which vehicle is at fault.

at that point my guess is that will probably be similar as it is now. insurance/copay.... the manufacture may be involved if something fails causing the accident. a miscalculation leading to a minor accident probably wont fall into the fail category.

since this tech will cause fewer and fewer accidents over the years insurance rates should begin to decrease.

Wouldn't it be awesome if while you were at work or home sleeping, your car could drive itself to the gas station to fill up- just charge it to the card on file. Or if it could take itself to get an oil change. Or a car wash.
