NSV - first 5K ever ...

My friends think I'm a bit of a strange character because I very rarely make a fuss about my achievements. Something good happens and they don't find out for months, sometimes. You'll never see me posting about any work or academic successes, for example (though there are enough to keep me happy, don't read into it that I'm a complete loser, lol).
But suddenly I want to share with the entire world that for the first time ever (at age 43) I just ran 5k continuously. In fact that's more than twice my previous longest distance. Even more confusingly, tonight I wasn't feeling great - I've had no energy for about 48 hours now - so as I left the house I thought I'd just do my shortest route at a slightly slower walking pace than my usual, which is pretty brisk.
I didn't do the c25k. The first time I have run more than 100 yards as an adult was 03 August. I simply got fed up with my walk taking so long, and half-way through tonight I took stock of whether I could make it and promised myself a glass of wine if I did the 5k (which I haven't yet had).
There's part of me that thinks I've gone completely mad, but another part of me is thinking "Hmmm, a measly 30:06 for 5k? You can beat that time easily!" ...
So, just for a change, a small pat on the back for me ...
And, if I can do it - someone who used to laugh at runners and think they were idiots - you certainly can!

Thanks, maybe I just took myself by surprise. Tomorrow I could go out intending to beat 30:00 and not even make it, lol ...0

An achievement and a half, well done you. And 30 mins for 5k is nothing to be sniffed at. Im currently at about 2.7miles at 37mins, so your winning me hands down.
Give yourself a pat on the back, you deserve it.0 -
Excellent job!!! It's always a fun feeling to run a distance we've never before run. And as others have said, that's a great pace, too! You should be so proud of yourself (and go enjoy that glass of wine)!
Happy running! :flowerforyou:0 -

I'm a firm believer in the phrase: "The race is long, and in the end, it's only against yourself." (nothing to do with actual running, lol) Having done it once, and pacing the second half to make sure I did actually do it with out a) being sick, or b) dying, I reckon I can do better.
So, congratulations yourself on 2.7 miles! This time yesterday i would have been looking at your numbers with envious eyes
Off to open that wine now0 -
Happy running! :flowerforyou:
Thanks it's never that happy, I still don't enjoy it much, lol - but it IS a way of getting the miles done more quickly!
Cheers!0 -
I never liked running either, although im more of a jogger, but is ce starting MFP four weeks ago, i can honestly say the more i jog the more i like it. Believe me if someone said I'd be jogging like i have 2months ago i would've laughed in their face.
Just goes to show, if you put your mind to anything you can achieve anything. Good luck everyone.0 -
