The activity setting is absolutely nothing to do with your exercise when using MyFitnessPal as designed.
(You could be Sedentary and run marathons or Very Active and do no exercise and every other combination of the two items.)
Activity setting is for all your routine daily movement during your waking hours but EXCLUDING purposeful exercise. Without knowing anything about your lifestyle can't suggest what setting you should use.
But if you have been elevating your activity setting due to your exercise AND then logging that exercise as well that would be double counting.
BTW - that does sound a very generous estimate for your swimming for "light/moderate" effort.0 -
Just adding to the comment from @sijomial above, I can tell you that calorie estimate seems high based on my experience. I'm not an expert, merely an intermediate level swimmer, but I've done quite a bit of volume training for races. My calorie estimates are tracked on my Garmin device and are quite a bit lower. I also know several very strong swimmers, who if pushing hard, could get close to that number. So it does seem high for the light effort you describe.0

I've been swimming for years. I give myself 400 cal for an hour of light-moderate swimming. Your burn seems way too high. Cut that number to at least half (you can enter in manually the calories). Try that for 2 weeks and see how it goes.0

I used to do 1-2 hrs hard swims, and the most I burnt in an hour was c600 calories. And that was pushing hard on front crawl drills with pyramid lengths and single arms etc. the average for relaxed swimming for me was about 300-400 calories, so I’d agree with all the other posters that you need to reduce your calorie expenditure.0
