Exercise is optional for weight loss. That's one of the beauties of following the classic MFP method of getting a base calorie goal for weight loss that doesn't account for exercise activity, then logging the exercise separately and eating those calories when the exercise happens. No exercise, no exercise calories eaten, weight loss still happens.
So, eat the right number of calories for your "no exercise" situation, and you'll do fine.
One piece of advice: While healing from an injury, don't try to lose weight fast. If it's a significant injury (break, tear, surgery, etc.), maybe don't lose weight at all for a few weeks. Healing is job 1, and healing requires calories and nutrition.
If only your foot is hurt, BTW, and it's not that you've been ordered to do zero exercise of any type (like sometimes is required after surgery), you may be able to do upper body exercise. There are some pretty vigorous exercise routines on YouTube for wheelchair athletes, for example. Even the seated exercises for seniors will burn a few calories, keep a person in the habit of being active.
Wishing you speedy recovery.0 -
I'm very disabled and have never needed to exercise to lose weight or stay lean. You just need to lean on diet more.2
