Diabetic with a large Insulin dosage: Help!

Hi all!

I am not diabetic but one of my co-workers is and she is struggling with weight loss. She has a large insulin dosage because any little thing makes her sugar go crazy. This is really hurting her weight-loss goals and she is struggling. She is starting to get discouraged and I am trying everything I can to keep her motivated but I cannot relate to the struggles of a diabetic weight loss plan.

Can anyone offer any advise? Nutriotional and exercise? Any help is greatly appreciated as she is feeling desperate and is considering gastric bypass seeing that as her only option. HELP!

A big step is understanding diabetes.

This site has a wealth of solid information:

In simple terms your friend should be keeping her carbs under control. I try to keep mine under 150g/day. Others keep their numbers well under 100g/day. The amount of carbs is unique to the needs of the individual. A person doing regular intense exercise can get away with additional carbs because they are being utilized for fuel. A sedentary person would likely see a rise in Bgl from consuming the same amount of carbs as an active person. I utilize a diet that is lower in carbs and high in protein and fats.

Exercising is important. Exercise is a necessary daily activity like brushing your teeth or doing the dishes. It is something that must be done.
