Heavy sigh. No huge weight gain!

We went RV camping this weekend in a little town in outstate MN. We went on a brewery tour, and I had 4 or 5 beers (beer tasting plus what we ordered). They were sours and so tasty! We had food truck food at the brewery. Then the next day we ate at a local diner with yummy sandwich and fries. And then another sour beer! We were active, hiked about 5 to 6 miles and did some e-biking in there too. I thought for sure I'd see 3 lbs on the scale from the salt and beer. Nope. 120 lbs and holding. Of course, I'm back on track today and will stick to my calorie goal going forward till next time.

It was so nice though seeing I could have some fun and interesting food and beverage experiences and then not see a huge gain as a result. I did log everything the best I could, but it was obviously pretty big guesses, and I was WAY over each day.

Heavy sigh of relief!

You don't gain massive amounts of weight overnight or over a weekend. The human body strives for homeostasis...to override that requires either a consistent calorie deficit or surplus over time. Just like you don't lose a massive amount of weight over a couple of days, you don't gain it either.

Yes, what wolfman said. Rare over-goal eating adds some water weight, but IME less scale weight over the longer span than I would expect.

I usually do see a scale jump after a travel/indulge episode, partly because of the unusual carbs/salt (maybe), but often the travel (long car rides, flying) also add water retention. One sees people here freak out over that initial jump, but I always encourage them to give it a week or two, so they're sure they're seeing something other than water weight/digestive contents weirdness.

I'm glad you didn't have any of that!

Way to go! That sounds so fun! Coincidentally or not, my biggest eating/drinking vacations also turn out to be my most active, and I have been pleasantly surprised more than not. Hope you enjoy your next escape just as much!

Maybe there's hope for me, then....

I did a dumb thing...I bought a dress for a special occasion that is one size too small. They did not have a larger size, I loved the style, and it was on clearance...basically got a $300 dress for $60.

It fits OKAY, and will be fine for the relatively short time I have to wear it. I can breathe, I can walk, but would probably have been more comfortable one size up.

Problem is...I have a vacation scheduled for the week before the special event. I'm very active on vacation, but we also eat at restaurants and drink alcohol. I always come back from vacation up a bit on the scale, even if mostly water weight. I have no room for error, here!

Haha, I guess I'll try to limit a LITTLE bit while on the trip...I usually just eat/drink what I want, but maybe I'll be a little more mindful this time.

I'm probably the odd one out here, but I actually lose weight while on holiday. And it's not because I don't indulge, during my last trip I ate 'all the foods' with quite a few days of breakfast buffets, dinner buffets,... Even if I really overestimated my food intake, I still wouldn't have been in a deficit. My guess is water weight from less stress? I usually see 2-3-4lbs drop off while on holiday and then it tends to creep up again when I'm back.
(Caveat: these are trips without air travel, and I also rarely drink alcohol)
