Cancer Thriver

Hi MyFitnessPal friends!

I have stage 4 cancer and am currently in chemotherapy. It’s hard not to gain weight because of the fatigue and steroids, but I’m hoping to make connections that will help me be accountable. Thanks so much, and looking forward to this journey together!

    Ugh, steroids SUCK!

You have all of my support and sympathy. Try not to worry too much about weight gain though, when you are literally trying to survive, all that matters is staying as healthy as possible, and sometimes that means gaining weight. That's okay though, once you are stronger, your body can handle losing that later.

I always view my weight gain from illness/meds to be battlescars. That's part of the *kitten* that didn't kill me. That's my equivalent of big gnarly scar under an eyepatch. When I had gained prednisone weight in 2019, I pointed to my butt and said "this is what pain looks like when you survive it."

I'm thankfully a solid year off of the prednisone, beta blockers, gabapentin, and topamax, and back to my ideal weight. I'm still pretty sedentary because my legs don't work much anymore, but I'm waiting on surgery to hopefully fix that.

In the meantime, my focus is always on whatever aspects of my health that I *CAN* control. That's all we can do, and when our bodies are suffering, it's more important than ever.

    But you already know that.
