80% heart rate

So I always heard that you should exercise at 80% heart rate if you can. For me that would be 144bpm.
That was easy once. Minimal exertion would do it.

Now I have started running and working out a lot more.
The heart rate won't go much past 115 even with maximal exertion.
Though my muscles can't move me faster yet.
I know that is a good thing. it means the cardiovascular is doing great. resting HR is down to 62.

Is there a point you don't need to go at 80% heart rate?
If that is still the goal, how do I get it. Running bicycling at the maximum my muscles will take me is not doing it.

Thanks

That's unusual. Do you take beta-blocker medication? That can keep your heart rate abnormally low during exercise.

Instead of going by heart rate, you can go by the level of perceived exertion. For a general workout, aim for around a 7 or 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

If you are healthy enough you need to find something that is harder. Run faster, run up hill/stairs, burpees, mountain climbers. Do some HIIT training routines.

You did not specify what exercise you are doing but if it is not something you can do faster or harder then pick something else.
