Making healthier choices

My friend Jess looked amazing after just a month and I was wondering what her secret was. She said that all she was doing was paying attention to what she was eating and using her FitnessPal. I was so inspired and I’m learning the ropes of MFP. My name is Eileen and I’m looking forward to connecting with the community. What are you guys doing for exercise?

    Hello and welcome!

    So, what precisely are your goals?

    My favorite exercise is running, but I also do strength training (which I enjoy less, but helps for my goals of improving my body composition). I also enjoy hiking/walking, but that's less frequent (some weekends and mostly when I'm on holiday).

    Some tips:
    - if weight loss is the goal, exercise is not necessary. I highly encourage it for health reasons, but weight loss is primarily a question of watching your food intake (calories)
    - do exercise you enjoy. it doesn't need to be 'high intensity' or 'punishing' for example. The best exercise is the exercise you'll actually do :smile:
    - don't go all gung ho and go from zero exercise to exercising daily. You'll burn yourself out! Start gradually. I exercise very regularly now, but if I had tried that at the start of my journey (3 years and 75lbs ago) I would have given up. I started out just aiming to increase my step count and built on that.
