Sugar count using calories not grams

Can someone explain why when you look at nutrition tab (I’m not a premium member) the sugar count prepresents the calories from sugar for the day not the grams?
Eg I added half teaspoon of brown sugar to my oats. That’s 11calories. I go to the nutrition tab and instead of it saying 2.5g of sugar it says 11???
That’s wrong right??
I’m really trying to manage my sugar intake and up my iron and protein so this is disappointing if that’s the case and makes me question are the other calculations on this page accurate?

Food database entries are crowdsourced, which means you need to check the entries are correct and complete.
(I don't 'do' teaspoons, I weigh my food, so I have no idea if half a teaspoon is indeed 2.5gr of sugar)0
