Calculating Sodium In Steak

How much salt do you track when you season a steak? Usually, it needs a lot of seasoning (like 2tsp), so it would be way overboard on sodium intake. However, I've also heard that much of that salt is lost in the pan when you cook it.

You should count it all...there's really no way to tell what's left in the pan.

If you don't have a medical reason to limit your sodium, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

But, 2tsp is kind of a lot of salt for one steak. You could use a lot less and try other seasonings, like pepper, garlic, or various herbs.

Season it after cooking and then you can weigh exactly how much you use. Which will probably be a lot less than 2 tsp.

Oh, wow. I don't use hardly any salt on beef, it's so salty already. Just maybe a dash (155mg)

2 tsp is a LOT of salt. I don't use that much in an entire day. That's double the daily recommended amount of salt, just those 2 tsp. Are you an extremely active person?

I agree with above, try to use some different spice mixes and cut way back - but in the meantime log what you use.

2 tsp of salt on a steak is not a realistic amount, it's excessive and I mean to the point that any food regardless of what it was, would be almost unpalatable and I like salt.

Yup, I love salt and I'm very generous with it when I season my steak prior to cooking but I definitely don't use anywhere near that!
