Jolly Mountain via Sasse Ridge

I almost cheated by approaching this Teanaway peak from the Salmon la Sac side, it turned the affair into a 7 mile hike from 13, and every step was new to me. People normally approach from the Medras/De Roux side.

Jolly is a Teanaway 20 summit, but less visited because it burned a few years ago. The days following the Jolly Mountain Fire ash literally rained down from the sky in Seattle. People don't like hiking in burn scars, this one is only beginning to regrow. So I had the mountain to myself for a while. 🙂

Here are some highlights.

We don't have mountains here, at least not that kind. We have had some smaller burns, "up North" from where I live, though they're not a big risk thing here (Michigan) generally. Sometimes the re-colonizers after a burn are interesting to see, and a bit different from what might appear in other surrounding areas that didn't burn. I don't know whether the Alpine-ish plants in your photos here are typical things you see elsewhere in open areas or not, though.

Beautiful photos as always from you - thanks for sharing!

Awesome. You should mention how far away Rainier is from that hike...to give scale to the massive size of that volcano. . .that I hope stays quiet.

    Beautiful images, thanks NC. :)

It's 50 miles in a straight line from the top of Jolly to the top of Rainier! 🏔️

!! Such an iconic pic, too.

When people first come to Seattle, they can't believe how massive Rainier is. Thanks!
