Rapid Weight Loss, Slowed Metabolism--Any Counter-evidence

Hi!
I read that the Biggest Loser contestants have permanently slowed metabolisms because they lost the weight too quickly.
I read someone's comment that the contestants had probably started working out heavily again just before the research weigh-in, which would mean the metabolic slowing had reoccurred but wasn't necessarily permanent. (Although it mostly seemed that they had given up by then, based on interviews. So, I'm not sure they would have.)
Does anyone have any counter-evidence (especially research) that contradicts the Biggest Loser study findings?
