Is there any activity you originally decided to put off until you had lost weight, but then thought, dang it, YOLO, so tried it at your current shape/size/weight and really enjoyed it? I'm thinking of doing a salsa class, eek.

I was lucky, sorta: After cancer treatment in 2000-2001 (stage III breast cancer, pretty advanced), I got a strong case of "there might not be a next year" and did quite a few kind of scary things, despite being class 1 obese at the time.

Only a few months after I started rowing in 2002-3 (scary in itself!), that included going to a week-long women's rowing camp, expecting to row for 3+ hours every day (plus walking and yoga and stuff, not to mention meeting athletic strangers when I was a non-athletic introvert). It was so fun!

Not much later, I competed in both machine and on-water races (including Masters Nationals - since "Masters" in rowing means "post-collegiate people" not skilled people . . . but I was one of the handful of fat people there among many hundreds of competitors).

The cancer experience has gotten smaller in the rear-view mirror, since I'm still here over 20 years later; but I've never been sorry about taking that "let's see if I can do this - it sounds fun!" approach to anything that I was reasonably sure wouldn't cause actual injury.

FWIW, I didn't lose weight until 2015-16, so there were lots of fun, scary things 2003-2015 while still overweight/obese: High ropes course, strength training, many rowing camps, many races, getting back on a bicycle and working my mileage upward, spin classes at the Y, adult learn-to-swim lessons, kettlebell class, . . . . (I didn't like the high ropes, except for the zip-line down at the end: Heights are not my thing. But I'm glad I did it. The other stuff was all fun.)

    Take the salsa class!

I started Taekwondo when I was still very obese. It totally kicked my butt, but my progress was swift and it really motivated me to stick with my eating plan and eventually to do other exercise so I would be better for TKD.

Took a lot of dance classes. Hula, belly dance, ballroom, square dance. Loved them all! Take the dance class!
