Lowering triglycerides

I need to lower my triglycerides, among other things. I'm a type 2 diabetic, and it's pretty well controlled with medication. However, my triglycerides have been slightly high for a few years, and nothing seems to change the number. I need to lose weight, and I asked my doctor for a few months to lower the my triglycerides with diet before going on a statin.

Has anyone lowered theirs with just diet and exercise? If so, what did you do? Also, I'm wondering if weight loss is the most important factor in lowering them. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks.

Since I lost weight and changed my nutrition I've never had a high triglyceride or cholesterol or blood sugar issue.

If you are overweight you have everything to gain by losing the weight.

All of my past physical and medical issues resolved when I got to a healthy weight.

    Ooooo my favorite NE=1 story.

My triglycerides and LDLs were a touch high and I'd read how someone improved their levels by actually eating more high cholesterol foods.

So I added one or two egg yolks a night instead of just eating egg whites, changed nothing else (not even my exercise and this might have been during the year I unintentionally maintained weight) except the food the calories in the yolks would be substituting (most likely bread or chocolate) and my cholesterol improved by, I think, 7 points total?

    But, yes, weight loss helps.

Lowering mostly the starchy carbs and of course losing weight will lower trigs every time. Basically a lower carb diet. The other effects will be a lower A1C and HOMA-IR and generally an improvement in the particle sizes of LDL. If you decide to try low carb talk to your Dr. first because most diabetic medication will need to be adjusted lower with this intervention.

It may not be the whole solution but it's very clear you have a major risk factor to address and one you can and should address for your overall health and not just your triglyceride numbers.

Ate the same foods, but less of them for a while, and increased my exercise plus daily activity.
It really can be as simple as that.
