Cortisol

Does anyone here deal with cortisol issues? I have a lot of stress and feel like, on top of over eating, I might have a cortisol issue.

Quite a few people here deal with stress issues. I haven't seen many frame that as cortisol issues.

Have in the past. Not now. Don’t remember much about it. Sorry I can’t help. Get as good sleep as you can. Eat as well as you can. Practice deep breathing techniques. Journaling may help.

Have you completed a hormone panel. The thorough one. No one here can diagnose medical conditions. Assuming you've had chronic stress: Less stress and more sleep can help heal a host of problems. Cortisol is a good thing for the most part because it has a job. Fight inflammation. You need your stress responses tested by a specialist. Chronically high cortisol down-regulates cortisol receptors. There's so much more involved but you need a medical professional to give you the whole gist of the matter.

Go see an endocrinologist if you want to know what your cortisol levels are. It is one of the major hormones that regulates a variety of functions in your body/brain. It is primarily associated with the stress response but it is also key to sleep/wake cycles. They will have you collect your urine for 24 hours and then test the levels to determine whether they are within range. Cortisol level vary throughout the day so are not tested at one discrete time alone to get an accurate reading. The diseases related to cortisol excess or deficiency (Cushings and Addisons, respectively) are pretty rare. I was tested for Cushing’s several years ago (it is caused by a tumor on the pituitary gland) because I had all the symptoms including chronically sky high cortisol readings, but no tumor. It ultimately resolved itself. It was chalked up to poor nutrition and chronic vomiting plus family stress post aggressive chemo and radiation.
