I'm new, in need of advice!

I downloaded MFP a week or so ago. My calories aren't too bad, on the days I don't drink. When i do i get over my cals by a hundred or so, and then have a sugar binge and it all goes to hell. So obviously thats got to be the first thing to go.
But (and it's a big but) I've let myself go to the point that, I'm ashamed to say, even the lightest of exercise sees me out of breath and sweating.
Does anyone have any tips on where to start with exercise? I just need to get a bit of strength and stamina. I need a starting point.
Any help would be much appreciated xxx

My starting point was just walking, honestly. As far and fast as was comfortable at the start, and building from there. I did that for a few months before moving on the other types of exercise.
The important thing is:
- do something you enjoy
- build up gradually1
