Stupid Calories vs Carbs Question -Body Armor Lyte

It's my understanding a gram of carbohydrate is 4 calories. How can this stuff have 18G of carbohydrates and 20 calories?

It's the Erythritol (sugar alcohol). Erythritol is a carbohydrate, but it is zero calories because it is quickly absorbed by the small intestines and excreted in urine before it has a chance to be metabolized.5

Thank you. I have been drinking the stuff and my wife noticed 20 calories, tried it and liked it. She showed some friends that monitor carb intake and she said it was like she showed them the devil. Not quite the same.
