Requiring a premium membership to use the barcode scanner is a very bad idea in my opinion. I've been using my fitness pal long before UA bought them out. I'll tolerate some level of advertisement but not eliminating the barcode scanner and placing full page ads occasionally on the app. No, I'm not going to purchase a premium level. I'll simply look for another calorie/nutrition tracker. Sometimes getting too greedy bites you back.

Food for thought, maybe you’d keep more users. Absolutely ridiculous something that’s been free since the beginning of the app will be locked behind premium. Yes I’m talking about the barcode scanner and no I won’t support the app anymore

They should come up with NEW and innovative ways to promote their paid subscription not take away key features that were free to everyone and use to justify their enormous monthly fee.

I think taking away the barcode scan feature from free members like myself is a slap in the face. Yes I have used this app for free, but your data breach a few years ago is the reason my email and personal information is on the dark web. If anything, you should pay me to use your app. I think I will find an alternative app. I’m sure there are plenty out there. Thanks anyway.

How about building compelling new premium features that draw people in (I.e a carrot) rather than hitting people with the dumbed down app (the stick).

And not to mention, their database was built mostly by contributions from free users over the years.

I just signed up with LoseIt, so far it looks good. It's not as flashy as MFP is, but that's not a bad thing in my opinion.

You are about to lose a very loyal customer and I know hundreds more people deleting your app because of your horrible business decision to make people pay to use the bar code scanner which has been free this whole time. I hope you reconsider your decision before October 1st

I couldn’t agree more. I have loyally used MFP for 10 plus years and have promoted the app through my workplace and friends alike. This is possibly the worst business decision they could make. What is the first thing I did when I read my email tonight? I searched for a way to provide my shocked and discouraged feedback. I work for a large healthcare organization and while personally, I use the free version, the recommendations I have made over the years have unequivocally outweighed my free membership. I will refer no more. Truly very saddened by this and the 50% off first year comment came way too late in the email. I’m shocked I even made it that far. I’m beyond saving as a customer or referral at this point. I also hope you reverse this self-destructive business decision prior to October. If I haven’t paid for the app in 10 years, there’s no way I’ll pay for barcode scanning now. You’ve lost me and my referrals. AND there’s other apps that I will use in your stead. Sad day for MFP and our history together.

Same here.
Not only that, the lack of ability to talk to an actual customer service human is appalling. It's 100% clear they don't care about their users, and don't want their feedback. MFP has been signalling what kind of company they are for some time now, and with this terrible decision it's become blatantly clear.

On a side note my wife and I went through our leisure wear last night and remove all the under armor items and threw them away. Won't be supporting them anymore.

I actually came back to MFP from another app because the other barcode scanner was a joke. Guess the joke was on me. I am not happy about this at all.

Ill dip too. I don't know how anyone think asking people to pay 20 bucks a month for a feature that was always free was a good idea.

It was sold to a venture capital firm, Francisco Partners. They bought a place that I used to work at, and squeezed every bit of short term profit out of the company before pretty much killing it, which is what they appear to be doing here.

This makes me really sad, MFP please don't make these changes.

I was extremely hopeful for the company and website as an entirety when I got to meet some of you through the user panel two years ago. I felt a lot of inclusivity and care with the people I met but I am heart-broken to hear that greed has overshadowed those memories. I've done nothing but speak highly of MFP with my family and peers as the best platform to use when trying to get healthier - not just losing weight. Barcode scanning is vital to its use and making this a premium-only feature is only going to steer people away to find something better, myself included.
