What HRM can u sync with bodymedia link?

Hi, I just got my bodymedia link & saw that u can sync a HRM with it & would like 2 know if any1 has done this & what HRM do u recommend pls? Is it worth the $? Any info u can offer would be awesome... Thx so much! :flowerforyou:

    They don't measure ur heart rate... I thought they did when I bought mine but found out u have 2 have HRM & sync it... I'm not exactly sure what the bodymedia device measures... I'm thinking I should have bought a good HRM instead since I think it would have 2 be more accurate since calorie burns all depend on ur HR zone & things of that sort... & looks like only Garmin HRMs are able 2 be connected with bodymedia...

    I wish I had an iPhone instead of an Android because I woulda got the Scosche Rhythm Pulse Monitor... It seems pretty kool & I think it actually monitors HR also... Live & learn I guess... :wink:

    Calorie burns are NOT dependant in your heart rate.

    No? Guess u learn something new everyday... lol I always thought they were... & for example I lost 30 lbs in a lil over a week when my heart sped up to 120 -150 bpm resting & around 200 bpm standing... I started at 135 & went down to 105 & then when they put me on meds to slow it (to 40 bpm resting) I gained 55 lbs in just a cpl months... So it seems like ur HR has a lot 2 do with calorie burn... Hmmmm? Something 2 look in2 I guess or ask my cardiologist... The only thing they told me about my weight at the hospital was that I was considered anorexic since my BMI went down to 18.6 & I needed 2 eat lots of food 2 get my weight back up...

    It does not pull in calories burned, merely HR info.

    BMF is a poor substitute for Garmin Connect or Sportracks if you just want to look at HR info.

    What Dave is stating is that while HR is about the only method that you can cheaply correlate between HR and calories burned, it's not a direct correlation.

    Ever gotten excited and HR went up, while standing still? Did your calorie burn just go up as high as the HR might suggest? No.
    Ever stop exercising and stand still, and HR takes several minutes to come down? Was your body burning more during that whole time of it lowering? No.

    If you have a HRM that allows changing the stats of HRmax and VO2max, and you have great estimates of those, or tested values, then you can be much closer to reality.
    With possible variances, stressed, hot, long workout, ect all will inflate HR higher not related to burning fuel.

    Also, to your weight loss/gain - what exactly did you lose or gain, water, muscle, fat, ect? Your heart beating faster uses very little extra, it just doesn't take much, very efficient muscles.

    Meds made you gain water weight, expected.

    I gained fat! & No, it wasn't water weight... I'm still trying 2 get it 2 come off... It seems like the only reasonable explanation to me... My heart rate went way up & in that period of time, lost 30 lbs... heart rate went way down, gained 55 lbs... Apparently I'm gonna have 2 have a good convo with my Dr about it & see what he thinks happened... Thx 4 the info...

    30 x 3500 / 7 = 15000 deficit each day on average from your maintenance.

    Ya, it's impossible for it to have been fat, fast heart rate or not.

    55 x 3500 / (2 x 4 x 7) = 3438 surplus over maintenance each day on average to gain 55 lbs in a couple of months.

    Sorry to tell you, that is barely possible, even if you tried by over eating.

    You need to do some research on heart rate and calorie burn. Only when the heart rate goes up so you can supply more oxygen to burn more fuel your body is wanting to burn, does higher HR equal higher calorie burn.

    What are the side effects of the medicine you were on?

    And have you seen what 5 lbs of fat looks like? The volume it takes up? For you to be carrying that in your belly, you'd have a huge belly, I mean really, Google it and look at the volume size.

    The bodymedia device uses four different sensors to figure out you calorie burn one of which is heart rate. It just doesn't have a display for you to read it. If you have the link and you use your mobile, use the work out option to workout with your total activity. I agree with the previous poster that you did not gain that much fat in that short amount of time and i recommend some research on heart rate when it comes to fitness vs fat burn.

    Another way to think about it: Fat, being less dense, floats in water, while muscle, being more dense, does not.

    Fresh cut off a body, not dried out (except drained of blood), meat. They pretty much figure out what a cubic centimeter (0.393701 cubic inches) of it would weigh and go up from there. I am talking just the muscle, also known as Lean Body Mass (LBM). Any water retained would fall under the heading of water weight, something you can easily lose 5-10lbs of overnight.

    The bodymedia armbands do not use HR in any way. You can upload data from a Garmin HRM should you choose to do so, but as previously mentioned, it's just a poor substitute for garmin connect or sport track (or whatever it's called, it's on my personal PC). I use a bodymedia LINK and I also have a Garmin watch with HRM. The calorie burns for steady state aerobic exercise (the only time a HRM is remotely useful) are nearly identical between the Garmin and the Bodymedia (off by maybe 10% max). If you have a bodymedia, you're good. Just use that. It's far more effective at measuring your all day calorie burn (which is infinitely more important than whatever you burn in an hour of exercise).

    I'm not touching the 30 lbs/55 lbs bit with a 10 ft pole.
