Put on weight! :(

I've been using MFP, eating 'clean' and exercising religiously for 8 weeks now. After the first 4 weeks I weighed myself and I'd lost 6lbs which was great, but I've just weighed myself again and I've put on a pound!

I've just finished RI30 and started 6 Week 6 Pack this week and feel like I've been working really hard. I'm really disappointed!

It's not worth stressing and being disappointed over 1 pound. Did you know a woman's weight can fluctuate up to 5lbs throughout the day? Water, Salt, PMS. There are a handful of reasons.

To get the most accurate reading weigh yourself on the same scale, at the same time, wearing the same thing each weigh in.

With 10 (less now) pounds to lose, it's healthy, reasonble and realistic to set your goal at only 1/2 a pound per week. You've lost 5 pounds in 8 weeks, which puts you right on track (5 divided by 8 = 0.625 average pounds lost per week so far).

Also, anytime you start a new workout program, you're pretty much guaranteed to see your weight go up a bit or stall. This is due to water retention...also caused by too much sodium, monthly hormone cycle, etc. Basically what happens is the muscles retain water and glycogen as part of the natural healing process. Kind of like what happens when you sprain an ankle and it swells only not as visible. If you're sore, it's pretty much a guarantee that you'll also be up a pound or two.

Start taking body measurements and progress pics. This is a much better way to measure your progress, especially while doing those hard core type workouts. And pay attention to how your clothes are fitting. The scale is not the only way to measure success and in many cases, it's really not the best.

    This^^^^^^^^

Weigh yourself in the morning, on an empty stomach and empty bladder. Also, the scale is a lying turd, start taking your measurements. Your body may be changing more than you realize!

It happens and happens ALOT so dont let that scale beat you because it can be your best friend one day and your worst enemy the next. Fluctuations are just part of the norm, just have to learn how to not let them defeat you. I cant tell you how many times i just wanted to toss that scale across the room and give up. But .. that would be to easy. And this is not going to be easy, other wise we all would not be looking for the support we get here. Never trust a week to week way in. always give yourself a month for some true numbers. You can weigh when you want but see how the numbers look at the end of a month or two. ( dont forget to take measurements, because if the scale is not moving the inches might be. )

    Not helpful.

Thanks all. It's really disheartening when you've been working really hard and gain, even if it is only a pound in 4 weeks. I lost 25lbs on Weight Watchers a couple of years ago and never put on once in 5 months so this is a bit of a curveball for me.

I haven't taken measurements or photos which I know I should do but my jeans are looser and my stomach is definitely flatter than it was 8 weeks ago so it's frustrating when the scales effectively tell you you're not working hard enough!
