    Hi Valerie. Welcome to MFP.

So glad you’ve found the skier you enjoy doing. An exercise you like can make all the difference versus counting the minutes until you’re done!

Where is the calorie count coming from? A wrist type exercise tracker (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, etc) will typically be more accurate than relying on the reading the machine itself gives you.

My watch usually records half or less what the machine shows.

It sounds like you’re using a tracker that you’ve synced with MFP. If that is correct MFP is adding your exercise calories to your daily budget.

MFP is designed for you to eat back your exercise calories. The deficit needed to lose weight has already been calculated into your daily budget, before exercise is added back.

Because trackers and calorie reporting from gym machines can be inaccurate, many people choose to eat only half their exercise calories back.

For example, my daily calorie allowance is 2200. I will probably earn about 500 calories, per my Apple Watch. Half of that would be 250.

So I will probably eat my 2200+250 for a total of 2450.

Yesterday I had about 1,000 extra calories from exercise. I only ate a few back. I will “bank” the extra calories for Friday, when my husband and I usually go out for something special for lunch- a super burrito, chicken shawarma, or a pizza.

Does this all make sense to you?
