I have been fighting this darn belly fat for a long time. I am 58 5'9" 178 lbs. I have been working out for years. Very active. Cut my diet down a huge amount. Yet the flabby belly has stuck with me. I was at a weight of 198 12 years ago. I have been down to 170 several time but nothing close to the 165 that my Dr. suggests.

Same age but a little shorter. I'll let you know that when I competed, to have a 6 pack, I was down to 160lbs. I'm at 192lbs right now and you can only see the top of my abs. Lots of "spare tire". If I'm at 170lbs, you can at least see the detail of my six pack.
Depending on how muscular you are, you may have to get to under 170lbs to see a six pack clearly. And again, that's still all diet. Probably about 1400-1800 a day for awhile.

I'm 5'9" - 62 YO, been working out for years, very active and I'm 166lbs - don't have a flabby belly.
Flat stomach, two pack might be a reasonable description, if I wanted a six pack I would have to lose more but that doesn't interest me.
Suggest you lose a bit more weight, your Doctor has probably given you good advice.
My initial weight loss goal was 175lbs (my favourite weight in my 20's) but losing that extra 9lbs made a big difference.
I adjusted down in a series of steps of about 3lbs at a time. Have been a bit lighter but found I got hungry and energy levels started to suffer. It's an experiment you will have to run for yourself to find your current "best weight".5
