My GF can use the barcode scanner, but I can't (neither are on premium)?

So since MFP decided to steal that feature from us, I haven't been able to use it. However my girlfriends on the same free MFP plan as me, and same app version that I can tell, yet her barcode scanner still works fine?
Why is that?
