How thin is "to thin"?
I was just entering my food for the day and next to my diary was a "Juicy" clothing ad with a model that looks like she couldn't possibly weight 80 pounds soaking wet. She looks sick, emaciated, anorexic, bulimic and every other word that can be used for someone that is just TO THIN. I found it to be not only in bad taste to put that particular ad on this website but I found it sad. No wonder our children have eating disorders when they are bombarded with these kinds of ads at every turn. Just my rant for the evening...
And please, don't put those kinds of ads on here they are really in poor taste....

MFP doesn't control the ads, google does. And google will take money from anyone to advertise pretty much anything.0

You can't see an eating disorder. It's much more a matter of the mental process than a person's weight. Being skinny does not make a person anorexic.
But the ads here are targeted to you. It depends on what you search and read on the Internet yourself. I get a lot of travel ads and stuff personally because I search a lot of vacations and stuff, for example.0 -

This is true but you're also medically diagnosed with anorexia at a BMI of 17.5 so there's the visual aspect to it as well.
OP: ever heard of adblocker? No? Go check it out now.0 -
BMI below 18.5 is too thin.0

My daughter struggles with being "too thin". She went camping and lost a few pounds and gets all freaked. She is 5'4" and right now weighs 111 pounds. You might see her and think the same, but it's not, it's genetic. Most kids gain in college, mine lost weight.
I also beleive too thin isn't always a number, I am too thin at 5'2" if I go below 120 pounds, others look great at 110. I think it's all dependent on the person.0 -
If you see the advert it means you (or someone on your PC using same session as you) has been googling/browsing about Juicy clothes or similar
Targeted advertising follows us to all websites, its not up to MFP, they sell the space for a blank 'advert' box to make the money to fund this wonderful place, and google put whatever adverts suit you best in there.
Mine likes to advertise stuff to me I already bought/looked at and decided against, so not really helping as its too obvious ;p
On the too-thin point, I had to remove a lot of friends from MFP because they were eating only 1k cals, exercising non stop and looked gaunt, showing bones, and would not listen to anyone who suggested they might be underweight. Calling it skinny-shaming and then insulting all the 'jealous fatties'0 -
You could also add Adblocker to your browser and you won't see any of the advertisements. I'm always shocked when i use someone else computer by how many people must see all the time. I also think it's a shame the concern about marketing that was so important around the release of Klein's No Logo seems to have dissipated.0

If you feel juicy's ad was using inappropriatly sized models, then email juicy or stop buying their clothes or looking at their clothes or going to their website.
I would say anything below BMI 19, because then you have the same amount of health risks for poor health as someone who morbidly obese. Not to say there aren't people who naturally struggle with this and may be outside of the ranges on either side of the BMI equation, but on a whole population study, BMI below 19 for the population is unhealthy.0 -
I have not really seen any ads like that on myfitnesspal, but I do realize how ads can be like that.
I know that there often times models are size 2 or smaller, and 5'9 or taller. It seems like nowadays most models are size 0.
I was looking at this post on a website that shows before and after pictures of women, and the last one shows a woman who looks like she got too skinny, you could see her ribs in that last photo. But just because someone is naturally skinny doesn't mean they have an eating disorder. I don't really have a problem with skinniness, as long as you're naturally like that, or not to a point where you're all skin and bones. I think some people can look really good overweight too, like 20-30 pounds overweight.
Although I know for sure it can be hard to tell if you want to be so skinny or want to just have an hour glass shape.
I've had a desire to be skinny for a while, and it didn't just start from nothing. But I used to be midly obese, I was obese and actually looked like it. Its kinda strange when you think of how the media is, and people on tv, people in magazines. I have found most women in those tend to look pretty skinny, but not exactly all skin and bones kind of skinny. I see men in magazines and they usually look not really skinny but not overweight. Its not really that hard to avoid some of that stuff though, or just realize you most likely won't be like these people, especially with the ability to have a personal trainer, actually go to a gym, etc.0 -
To thin, or not to thin. That is the question.0

install adblock on chrome and you will never see a nasty ad again. even on youtube.
is posting links frowned on at MFP? if not let me know and i can post a link.0 -
It's not true that they only show ads based on stuff you search. I constantly get Mini Wheat ads, in Spanish, no less. I neither speak Spanish, nor do I eat Mini Wheats, and I've certainly never done a search regarding either of these things.0

Officially, a BMI below 18.5 is too thin, but that's a bloody random way of measuring it.
Unofficially, if I can see your bones I'm not going to want to jump them.
My ads are for some concert series at the local casino. Which is weird, because my knowledge of them comes solely from their ads on baseball tickets.0 -

Given your utter disregard for grammar and punctuation, you've hardly any grounds to criticize someone else's spelling. :flowerforyou:0 -
Too thin in my opinion is when you can play someone rips like a xylophone.0
