Repairing metabolism?

For those of you who have tried VLCDs in the past, particularly for long periods of time, how long did it take for your metabolism to go back to normal? What method did you use? Did you slowly up your calories or up them all at once?
I have been eating normal amounts for a while now but still feel my metabolism is a lot slower than it would be if I hadn't screwed it up on VLCDs.

Not a fan of VLCD. If you work out a lot-- which I know you do, you're gonna need those carbs for energy!0

Have you tried something like natural supplements protien shakes? I started to use it when my wieght evened out during my hard workouts (Insanity, crossfit, etc) and I wasn't getting enough calories. I personally use Shaklee (they are organic and clean - i'm committed to keeping my body clean of chemicals and fillers) to feed my body on a cellular level. I also keep up on making sure I eat very VERY balanced meals - organic as possible - good carbs like sweet potatoes, healthy fats like avacado, veggies all all colors, lean meats, etc. You eat like that for 6 weeks, it will repair but you need to stay committed. Also, Shaklee is the only company that focuses on keeping your body from burning your muscle as opposed to fat using the Amino acid Luecine - check it out.
My days usually consist of Shaklee smoothie for breakfast - with my daily vitamins (shaklee vitalizer - MOST IMPORTANT - keep the body strong and healthy)
Snack - small handful of raw almonds and energizing tea
Lunch - (Sometimes a shake - if I'm too lazy to pack a lunch lol) 4 oz of skinless roasted chicken breast, 1/2 cup of roasted sweet potato cubes, huge veggie salad with olive oil/lemon juice/sea salt dressing homade, 1/2 avacado
snack - apple (late day lul kills me - this give me pep)
Dinner - same as lunch but sometimes its 6oz of fish, 4 oz lean grass fed beef, etc.0 -
I'm very against VLCDs as well and love carbs. I was just ill informed enough to try them in the past. Now I eat healthy, regular amounts.0

I'm a believer that all caloric intake changes should be done slowly within 100-200 calorie per week increments and with adjustments that are done in response to weight results. I have no science to back this up at all. It's just my opinion.
However, I'm not one to take my own advice. Do as I say, not as I do.0 -
How long have you been off the VLCD? Its been 5 weeks for me now and I'm starting to feel a little bit better.
I take cinnamon tablets and a multi-vitamin to help. I was taking a probiotic but it made me feel super bloated. I also drink at least a gallon of water a day and multiple cups of green and chai tea.
Let me know if you find any other metabolism enhancers I'd love to get mine burning like a fire!

According to the research that I read exercise can counteract metabolic slowdown. It stands to reason that exercise can increase your metabolism faster than just eating at normal level.0
