Struggling with weight loss

I just started using this app again. I am looking to loose around 20 pounds. I have been struggling for quite some time with my weight. I tend to over eat and can't control portion sizes or what I put into my body. Anyone have any helpful tips for someone just starting out again on this journey?

Buy a food scale. Best $25 you'll ever spend.

    Then, pre-plan your day's food.

Log everything as accurately as you can.

Step on the body weight scale every morning and log that.

I had to see all of the numbers every day. I studied my food diary and learned from it.

I took a walk every day. 15 years after my weight loss I still walk for over an hour a day.

Then, I had to deal with all the reasons that I ate when I didn't really need food. Like, in front of the TV. When I was stressed, bored, mad, frustrated, etc.

If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the solution.

I've never heard that line before. Excellent one to remember!!!

    Yep--that's a good one!

If you can't control what you are putting into your body then you don't want to see a change badly enough yet. Work on your mindset. Take it one day at a time. Can't should not be in your vocabulary - "Yes, you CAN". Possibly drink a glass of water before every meal to help fill you up. Pre-portion an amount of something into a ziploc bag so you don't continue to reach for more. Try having a small salad and healthy vegetables with your meals. Use smaller plates or a use a child's plate with the portion section dividers for your portions; it will feed the eye that your plate is full... :D
