Should I be concerned about rapid weight loss?

Ever since I started staying under the recommended 1750 calories (which included 399 exercise calories), I've been losing a pound a day. Staying under, meaning barely under, not drastically under. I weighed in at 257 today; which is in the super obese category for my height. I do know that the bigger you are, the faster you will lose weight. But, I've also heard many times that rapid weight loss is a bad thing. I don't know what to think or if I should be concerned. Any thoughts?

Since you do not define an actual start date to your calorie deficit, all we can assume is that based on your ticker, it's been 17 days since you say you are losing about a pound per day. That being said, yes, your are correct that since you are in the super obese category and have your calories reduced, your body will initially lose a lot of water weight. The problem comes into play that now that it been two weeks and most of that weight loss is water, your weight loss should start to slow down. Also if you are not doing any strength training during your deficit, you will lose fat, but you will all be losing muscle mass as well. Your goal should be about 2lbs-3lbs a week for a while since you have still much to lose. If after another 2-3 weeks, you are still losing about a pound a day, I would check in with your Dr.

I'm not a medical professional by any means, so just offering an opinion from someone whose been there and doing that.

Sorry, has another thought going on and forgot to go back and edit. It's not a problem that after two weeks, your weight loss should start to slow down. The problem I was referring to was if you are not doing strength training, you will have muscle loss.
