If you are doing a lot of walking as part of your fitness/health journey, I recommend visiting a specialist shoe store and get fitted for good walking/running shoes and socks. Makes all the difference when you are walking for your health.

Just watch out for places who are in business to sell custom inserts and shoes. They may try to sell you expensive correctives for issues you don't have. That said, proper fit is very important. Cheap trainers quickly lose their compression and fashion tennies may not provide proper arch support, flex, or have a thicker and/or angled sole that could lead to an injury. In the U.S. those mega-sporting goods stores offer an excellent selection and usually have knowledgeable sales people to help choose the best shoe for your activity.1
