@forestdweller1
I always enjoy your posts : - )
Glad that you got another wagon for wood transport to your fire!4 -
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My primary motivation for drinking less is weight loss.
I throw up if I have more than 3 drinks, so moderation on drink days is rarely an issue for me lol.
My recurring goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I squeaked to 16 last month.
I like to do this diary style to keep track.
Tuesday December 20 - AF - Minus 25 here this morning. I woke up Tuesday morning with a cold and had to take Dayquil to get through my workday. Just got over the flu, so I guess that my immunity was ripe to catch the next thing. I was more interested in a hot bath and a Neo Citran than anything last night, so AF won out.
Wednesday December 21 - AF - Got through a split shift with Dayquil and then Nyquil to stop my running nose and get some sleep. Minus 35 this Thursday morning. Yikes. I will drag myself to work for another split shift. Yes, Nyquil makes me groggy all the next day, but I really needed the relief and sleep.
Thursday December 22 - 2 drinks. It was a day. By the time I went to my car to go to work it was minus 36. My car wouldn't start! Already sick with a cold, and then had to walk to work. I managed to get rides home for my break on my split shift, back to work again and then finally home. Didn't even try not to have drinks. One of the chef's will pick me up this morning and at 3pm I will be on days off. I have jobs to do for my other company (Foster Grant) but I can't get to those without a car. Triple A and Roadstar are backed up, apparently many people's cars are not starting due to the cold, so I can't seem to get a boost just yet. The weather is due to dramatically change by Saturday and into Sunday, so maybe my car will thaw out on its own. No plans for AF over the next few days, but I am confident that I will at least get my 16 in for the month.
Rolling total - 14AF day out of 22 days6 -
@dawnbgethealthy ...Minus 35 ?? Makes me wonder what possessed humans to live in places like that....THEN, I remember your awesome photos of beautiful BC.
Middle Daughter lost another of her rescue cats last week due to kidney failure. She was only 8. Second furbaby lost to kidney failure in a month. The first one was elderly, but MD thinks both were due to the popular and expensive cat food they both ate. Last rescue will be getting a change of diet.
It's minus 5 here right now & SIL has lost his mind...He & Middle Daughter have been feeding a Marmalade alleycat for years. He's a territorial tom, often injured in fights. SIL bought him a heated igloo about 7 years ago. Today Middle Daughter came home from work and found that her husband had coaxed the alleycat into the kitchen...the cat immediately changed his mind, but SIL says he has to stay for the next 3 days [temps won't be above 20 til then]. Alleycat is between refrigerator and wall, with no current plans to move....Life in their house is going to be verrry interesting this weekend.
Wishing warmth and improving health to all.4 -
16 AF days of Christmas and the last 5 consecutive. Shopping is done, now I am in cleaning and wrapping mode.
Family is coming over with bottles of booze. EEK!
My goal is to keep the streak going. I have never done this on a holiday. Tomorrow will be my first.
@dawnbgethealthy I hope you can get someone kind from your local auto store (we have Autozone) and they can come by and revive your battery. Good luck!
4 -
@globalhiker I will be right there with you. Sober with booze flowing around me. But we will enjoy it and be truly present.4
-
I want to wish every one a Merry Christmas if you celebrate.
My family will spend the next two days in my home for celebrations. Along with my wonderful house guests (daughter, spouse (such a great man) and two grandkids) I will be sorry to see them go on Wednesday but I hope by next summer we will have moved and be within an hour or two of each other.
Tonight I am having 1 drink, it is sorta a thing with DH and I. Now back to chaos
btw @Lilylady3k I think I want to trade places for a few hours!

Hello all! I’m still Amanda, I’m from Michigan. I am still a crazy cat lady and work for a veterinarian. This will be my sixth month with this group and it has helped me cut back on my drinking so much! I am not ready to say I am 100% sober but last month I had 30 days alcohol free 😃

I can feel myself wanting a drink on Christmas Eve because it’s a holiday. I just want to hold and sip a warm cup of Baileys and coffee in front of the fire. Is that stupid?
Day 55 AF
On a “positive” note I did my final grocery store run last night and didn’t murder anyone. Now I can stay in all day. The weather outside IS frightful!
12/23: AF
Day 56 AF yesterday
I get pretty depressed around the holidays and this year I was so relieved it wasn’t happening but it hit me last night like a ton of bricks. I will spare you all the details. I have a lot to be grateful for. I will see family and friends today and will do it with a smile on my face!

Happy Christmas Eve to those that celebrate. I've been up since 4:30, getting ready for my noon company. I can't imagine doing this with a hangover. It's about 7 degrees out so I am using my screened porch as a quick chill for drinks etc. I just can't forget they are out there.
To those that have the blues, ( my husband had them yesterday) realize this is normal. Not everyone feels like "it's the most wonderful time of the year". We have all lost people that we love and cannot help but think of them in this season. Others of course are battling illness or other difficult challenges. I wish you all peace and serenity. Hugs.7 -
Hello! Celebrating a NSV today. Living in the Florida Keys means I don't often wear jeans. But we are headed up north for the holiday. I tried on my usual pairs....and they are too loose! Fortunately/unfortunately there are smaller sizes in my closet.
I've sent my favorite ginger beer (Fever Tree Light) and a sparkling grapefruit (also Fever Tree) plus lots of seltzer to my daughter's house (our destination) so that I can enjoy those rather than water. But I had 3 drinks last night and really felt it. Maybe 1 drink tonight if at all.
Goal: 15 AF days, no more than 2 drink missed 1x), only drink at events (missed x 2))
AF: 12/2-8, 10, 15-22 (14)
A: 12/1, 9-14, 23 (9)
Sending safe and warm wishes to all!6 -
~Twas the night before Christmas~
The ten reasons to stay sober were a great reminder why drinking LESS ( in any amount ) is important.
Mine to is driving safely without being impaired. Like I said the drivers in Florida are freaking nuts! You have to check, check, double check all directions always.
I would not want alcohol in my body in case something would happen. I am the only driver in our household. No transportation would be a problem.
After we came home last night I made "one" warm and toasty "A" drink in a mug, we watched a Christmas show we had never seen before.
We laughed at the freezing temps we are experiencing here (20°) during our first Christmas in Florida. Yup, but we know how to deal with it being from Northern New England and next week here it will be 70°, so not to shabby.
Looking back on 2022, WOW! I had a few months that I had more drinks throughout a 30 day span than intended. The number is still very important to my internal success. Hovering at 10 drinks or less any given month is happiness for me.
Being that we purged 75% of our personal possessions and belongings, uprooted our lives and moved 1600 miles to the South WITHOUT me drifting back into daily heavy drinking is my gift to myself.
It could have been so easy to say F it and take advantage of the stupid low drink prices down here, and try to pretend I was part of a Jimmy Buffett song with a cold one in my hand and my toes in the sand. But I can't. I need to keep steady on my journey.
Coming upon the end of the month as well as the end of a whirlwind year for me got me jabbering. Sorry for the thoughts escaping to the end of my finger as type.
Enjoy~ enjoy this day before Christmas.
* @forestdweller1 you are the star on my tree with your posts of hysterical wisdom. 🌟🎄

@forestdweller1
Hilarious post as usual : - )
You paint such a vivid picture with your words.
Oh yes, minus 36 is way too cold. Normally it is minus 5 to minus 10 here in Cranbrook BC (celsius), perfect weather for cross country skiing and skating on the lakes, almost always sunny unless snowing. I love to shovel, but not when it is that freaking cold. Extreme weather going on everywhere it looks like. We are jumping up 40 degrees with rain in the forecast for Monday, not good for winter activities at all, skis don't work when it is anywhere below minus 5. It will be minus 5 on Christmas Day, so planning on a good cross country ski : - )
You will have to let us know how it goes with the feral cat in their house : - )4 -

Friday December 23 - 2 drinks - A kind person boosted my car after work, so I was able to at least go and do a little shopping. All of the tow trucks have been busy boosting people all over the town, long wait lists, so I am very grateful that I didn't have to wait for AAA. Happy holidays everyone.

Sorry I've been kinda quiet the last few days. So day before yesterday, HBIC took the boy out to do a little last minute shopping; at the end of the evening, they demanded we eat at a Korean-Mexican fusion joint that just moved in down the street. At that point, calories were out the window so I decided to crack a couple imperial stouts while watching It's A Wonderful Life.
I woke up feeling gross yesterday. Not really hung over, just ugh. Two beers shouldn't leave me feeling that way, right?
So I've decided I'm pretty much done buying alcohol. I just don't get any real enjoyment out of it and it makes me feel bad. There are little bottles of Bailey's and Kahlua in the stockings and I have two beers left. I might give the beers to the boy.
Anyway, yesterday was AF. We all got into our stockings, and we'll probably do presents tonight. I started getting a little twinge of a sore throat later in the day, and woke up with my throat on fire. Yay. No idea if it's bacterial or viral - no fever so probably viral. I guess just ride it out for now. It only sucks until it doesn't, right?
I might put the Bailey's in my morning coffee. I'll probably not bother wearing my Garmin or logging food or anything else for a couple of days, and may or may not pop back in here right away, but I'll be around.
Merry Christmas, my friends. I'll be thinking of all of you!

17 days of Christmas and 6 of them consecutive. I think the magic streak is happening.
Today I asked for a taste of red wine and it was way less than half an ounce, so not counting that. I only wanted the "aroma" and I was curious to know what it tasted like.
I pushed through today's event with several Ritual zero tequila with cranberry. It has good viscosity and nothing offensive. There is a slight sharpness to it but nothing odd. I'll keep it on hand for New Year's "in case of emergency".
Enjoy your holidays everyone...!

12/24: A-1 Baileys and coffee
Broke my streak. I feel sort of so-so about this. Just the one drink and it was definitely a “holiday” drink in front of the tree and the fireplace and I sipped it.
It’s a balmy 16 degrees here today so I’m getting my bikini on to go sunbathe☀️
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!7 -
I broke my streak of 24 days yesterday. I had an upsetting phone call with my daughter (across the miles) and surrounded by alcohol, I finally broke. I didn't go crazy but I had some wine. I am not going to beat myself up. I have had 24 out of 25 days AF. Just going to move forward.
I wish everyone a joyous day and for those that celebrate, a very Merry Christmas!7 -

@joans1976 and @SunnyDays930
IT IS OK. You both have showed exceptional counter active solutions to not having alcoholic drinks for longer than most would be able to accomplish.
You are not in the wrong, nor looked down upon. You are the heros many of us would like to follow.
AMANDA your setting for your seasonal drink sounds amazing.
JEN, families! They so many times test us beyond words. You did not devour the entire bottle, HUGE WIN.
Wishing you both a big scale victory for stopping when you both did.
Enjoy the holiday❤🎄
BTW my name is Cathy

Yesterday I had the most wonderful hour+ phone conversation with my only remaining living sibling.
I wrote that out the way I did to remind myself that I did have more family, but now they are passed and I have to reminisce the holidays with my Sister.
It was so FUN, we laughed on the phone and the memories flowed forever. Best gift to each other we have given in a long time.
Best part.....no A yesterday. That is why the conversation was so wonderful for me.
Happiest of holidays and/or just a happy day for those not celebrating.
