If you're just starting, you're likely better off starting with the basics which would be calories and getting a handle on that. Down the road you can play with your macros or just let them fall where they may. Weight management is about calories...your macros are what make up those calories and have more impact on physical performance, satiety, mood, etc than anything else.

There is no universally optimal macro-ratio and it is largely personal preference outside of meeting basic macro nutritional needs. Many people put a premium on protein while losing weight as it is muscle sparing (along with resistance training), but that too can sometimes get a bit over the top.

Agreeing with @cwolfman13, have you ever counted calories? Calorie counting works, but not the way people would like. There is a pretty long learning curve. Plus the only way we really learn how it works for us personally is trial and error. Yet a lot of people go to pieces any time they make a misstep. It takes a lot more determination than motivation when it comes to learning the system.

Macro counting makes everything a lot more complicated. And for weight loss it isn’t really necessary. If you’re heavy into training you might give it a look. Macro counting is kinda its own lifestyle. The macro counters I’ve met basically lived at the gym. And you can get into macros in phases. Maybe start by counting calories and protein. Then all you have to do is add counting fat and carbs would be what’s left.
