I tried to make my first recipe, but I feel like the macros are wrong for this one cup of egg whites?

99% of the food entries are submitted by users, people just like you. You have to carefully vet each food you use. People enter them the way they want and there are thousands of entries that are not correct.

You can Edit them or you can create a New Food in the database. I've done both. Once you use one in your FOOD diary, then it will be easy to find again in your "Recents" or "Frequent" or "My Foods" lists from the "Add Food" screen.

Riverside's right. Since you're creating a recipe, there's another little wrinkle. MFP has searched and found that entry for you.

It isn't necessarily clear in the app or on the web that you don't have to accept what it found. You can search and replace it.

It looks like you're using the MFP app (on phone/tablet). I'm not sure exactly where in the process you are. If you've already saved the recipe, you probably have to delete the ingredient and re-add it in order to replace it. If you're midway through building the recipe, at some point it will ask you to confirm the ingredients. You may need to click on the ingredient to see it, but somewhere there should be a "replace ingredient" button. You can then do a search, and pick a database entry that is more accurate.

On the web, it's even more unclear: There are hidden clickable options to the right of each ingredient in the search results. A person has to hover their cursor in that area to even see the options. One of them is to replace the ingredient by searching for a replacement.
