Most Horrendous and Tasteless Running Shoe Ad... EVER!
Worst ad I have ever come across in my life. As an animal advocate, I am beyond appalled that this ad ever saw print. Dogs can easily become exhausted and die on long hard runs.

Oh stop it, it's meant to be funny, I love dogs as much as anyone else but we need to lighten up as a society. Smile from time to time it's meant to be funny and clever and promote a running shoe. Plus I'm pretty sure it's not a real dog0

OMG that is horrible.
I don't even particularly like dogs, but I don't think animal suffering is funny. Ever.0 -
That's horrible. I have an old Labrador, he is my baby but he is old and sick...Seeing this picture put me in tears.0

My Lab is lazy though ,she would not run for long - but swim all day .0 -
That is horrible! And in NO WAY makes me want to go out and buy their shoes...ugh.0

It looks like a PETA ad. I don't find it funny, just kinda meh...0

Dog lover here, this ad just makes me sad. Poor taste.0
-
Are you being for real? I am a dog lover. And my dog would constantly have to be dragged because his lazy *kitten* won't move and go for a walk outside. Its a funny add. Don't be so Politically Correct that you can't even make fun of animals. Next you're going to condemn lolcats for saying "How DARE they say cats can't spell cheeseburger!"0
-
I love DOGS! Why are you sad. angry or mad? Is the dog dead? Obviously he cares he's performing cpr lol, ! I would buy 3 pairs of sneakers just because of this ad! if it was a human would you be sad? probably not!0

Not sure of you cat reference.... But, if refusing to make fun of an animal in distress by the side of the road, because of too fast of running is politically correct, than I guess I am politically correct. Advertisers have a social responsibility. Period. It is not okay to promote animal abuse.
First off... no. Advertisers don't have a social responsibility. If Sarah Mclachlan can cry about dogs and try to guilt me into adopting pets then clearly advertisers don't have a social responsibility. They're allowed to manipulate anyways they wish.
Second, there is no promotion of animal abuse in the ad. It says that the man wearing those shoes can outperform an animal. A clever ploy since typically a dog can outlast a human far longer. In the pic, clearly the man is taking care of the dog so its not really animal abuse. So I don't really get how you're saying there is animal abuse.0 -
Not the least bit funny, and trust me, I have a sense of humor, I'm a Maritimer, its a requirement!0

I have two dogs. I don't take them with me when I'm running, cause they would probably drop dead trying to keep my pace.
And how on earth is that ad "promoting animal cruelty"? Did you even read the small print, where they provide a link to dog CPR? I think altogether that ad is pretty awesome, if you run with the dog -- learn dog CPR, in case your dog got hurt. Or cry online how sensitive you are. Your call.0 -

I am sure they meant it to be funny and to prove a point. With many people: they failed. I'm sure some people "get it". I don't.0 -

They posted this to their facebook:
We would like to sincerely apologize to everyone for the ad that ran in Canadian Running Magazine.
As most of us here at Pearl Izumi are dog owners, we want you to know we would never, ever do anything to harm an animal.
Please know that we have deleted the ad and removed it from all future publications.
Sincerely,
Pearl Izumi
I've seen a lab close to death from trying to keep up with his owner mountain biking on an extremely hot day. It was very upsetting. We did what we could, but I don't know if the dog made it.0 -
So if you saw this in REAL life: A man who ran his dog SO hard that he has to give it CPR. Would you be disgusted and call it abuse or would you think, "Gee I wonder what kind of runners he has on?"
I am sure they meant it to be funny and to prove a point. With many people: they failed. I'm sure some people "get it". I don't.
"A man who ran his dog SO hard that he has to give it CPR"? Are you actually reading what you're typing? First off, the ad actually promotes learning CPR for dogs if you run with your dog. I'm sure you skipped that part in your anger towards the advertisers. I also like how you're going "He ran him SO HARD!" Like the man just tied his dog to a car and made it run with it and if it fails, the dog would be dragging through the mud. I can assure you, if a dog that size don't wanna run, it won't be running. But I'm talking about real life which clearly has no room in the made up world in which you see the poster man abusing that dog.
I especially liked how you dodged by previous post0 -

Like a dog lover and a decent human being, I would run and help the man anyway possible. Not judge the guy helping his dog by giving him CPR...0 -

Of course they pulled it and apologized. They're a business and they want to stay neutral by not making anyone angry. Not even the overly sensitive folks.
As for the question: I believe I already answered your question. I told you that my first reaction would be to help the guy who is trying to help his dog. Ya know, something a normal human being would do instead of judging everyone.0 -
Quite tasteless...0

Jesus... People will find just about any reason to *****. It's not like it says "Buy our shoes, or we will kill your dog."0

way to overreact. LOL it amazes me that this could upset anyone to any real degree.0

Cool. Which is why you should learn to give it CPR. Just in case. Which the ad tells you to do. I hope that just because a dog have a small chance of getting exhausted you won't take it outside for a run. Because in many cases, THAT would be animal abuse. To keep the dog "protected" by never taking it out because of fear that "something might happen to the dog!"0 -
rofl !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
buying 10 pairs now and I hate those shoes.0 -
That is brilliant.
My old dog could out-run me even when I was training for a marathon (London), we would run 10-12 miles together 3-4 times a week.
Love it....0
