Continuing on the trend of 'steady efforts, short in length' to preserve the functionality of this stupid left foot. Yesterday must've been a good day, because today it /ached/. Ugh. I want a new lower body - right hip's shot, both knees are toast, and left foot and ankle are being turds. Why does age have to happen?

Actually turned the trainer difficulty down to 75% today to preserve the left appendage and knees and do this meetup with a Zwift buddy. Worked pretty well! Was still able to get a goodly amount of power out without dying and make decent time up the Zwift version of the Ventoux. Just felt more like riding my Bianchi and less like riding my Schwinn (groupsets make all the difference - a 2018 Shimano F105 vs. a 1972 ??? bastardized POS 2.1. 50/36 with a 10-cog 11-36 vs. a 52/42 with a 6-cog 14-28. Weeee!).

@wendsg - I totally agree about wanting a new lower body, my knees are shot!

Already busy in work so fighting for time on the bike. Just trying to fit in short rides where I can for now:

    01/01 - 45 mins. - 9 miles
    02/01 - 55 mins. - 11 miles
    04/01 - 32 mins. - 6.15 miles
    06/01 - 32 mins. - 6.01 miles

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/10252744591

Speed and cadence sensors fitted to the indoor bike and realise 12mph outside is a lot easier than 12mph stationary. I miss the downhills and freewheels which keep you at a decent average 😂

@Baz_Man Ain't that the truth! LOL If you're ready for the most heart-stopping challenge of all time... rollers. Not the new smart-rollers with the fork grips. Traditional rollers. 16mph feels like a death wish on them. 💀 Those and a sensor are how I zwifted my first vEveresting! 13 hours of riding rollers (putting a foot down on the descents because yikes) was terrifying.

Another short ride today - short efforts are making this very, very possible, despite continued foot problems (and yes, I'm going to make an appointment with my doc on Monday. Goodness knows when I'll get in, but making the appointment's the important first step).

OK, I'm a little late to the party, but let me jump in here.
I'm European so I think in k, but will calculate miles.
I commute to work by bike daily (6k daily roundtrip), have a spinning bike at home (Zwift), take regular rides for chores and fun in the weekends. But 2023 miles/year (3256 k/y i.e. 8.9 k/d) is Next Level. This is going to be a tough challenge!
As I am already 6 days behind, I will calculate this weeks working days x 5 x 6k as a start...

    7/1: 18.6/2023 miles (30/3256 k) = 0.9%

(seems like I have some catching up to do to most of you!)

@SimpleSimonEU welcome to the challenge!! It's more than possible to finish even starting a couple months late (it's just more... challenging lol). No worries about being behind! We'll be rooting for you!

I shall join, too. Thanks for the invite. Am at a little under 62 miles for the start. My goal is a tad different, would like to meet or beat my overall highest miles on an old Raleigh bike, catch up on the odometer so to speak.

Welcome, @allaboutthecake ! Sounds like a good goal.

Slow and steady here. Likely have tendinitis in this left foot having researched all the symptoms, but fortunately no swelling. Unfortunately that means there's likely nothing that can be done for it save rest and recovery.

So no running, more slow biking lolz

Continuing on with slow and steady. Foot's not getting worse. Maybe a smidge better - I can sleep at night without a brace now, anyway. After wearing said brace for about an hour.

Will likely do a second ride today (Zwift workout schedule's kind of demanding it), but the Tour de Zwift just started and I /have/ to do it for that fugly virtual swag (the kit this year is absolutely hideous and my black raisin of a heart cackles at it and must have it in the ol' virtual closet).

Pump Room 8 in Yorkshire is painful, though not in a bad way.

Foot almost behaved, too! I can almost walk on it without hobbling too terribly. At this rate, it may be fully recovered by March.

Alright, got that workout done. That's it for today - this workout was slow-cadence/high-torque, and my quads are on FIRE.
