Steps calories

Hi,

Not sure if I’m just being a bit daft here but MFP is connected to my iPhone step tracking app. Yesterday I burned over 500 calories walking 10k+ steps for 2 hours. MFP has only added around 200 calories burned for that walk.

Same again today, just done 6000 steps in around an hour, burned 250 calories according to my iPhone app, but again MFP has only added 120 calories burned.

Is there a reason the full amount of calories burned aren’t added on to the exercise?

I don’t mind, it’s just really bugging me!

Thanks

Please accept our apologies for any confusion surrounding your adjustment. If you are seeing a step count and a 0 for the adjustment, then you have not yet earned an adjustment.

The adjustment is actually not based on your step count, but instead based on your entire activity for the day. The step count is there as an incentive and though it does contribute to part of your activity level, it's not the sole contributor.

Therefore x amount of steps does not mean you will receive x amount of extra calories.

The way the adjustment is derived is by comparing your total calories burned from your tracker against the total calories already provided by MyFitnessPal.

When you have earned more calories than MyFitnessPal has already provided, you will then see the difference as your adjustment.

** You can view a breakdown of this calculation by tapping on the adjustment line and then on the adjustment itself (above the Learn More button) in the app, or by clicking the "i" next to the adjustment line in the Cardiovascular section online at www.MyFitnessPal.com **

Please also note: the total calories from MyFitnessPal will include any calories instantly provided by adding separate exercises (outside of your partner adjustment) to MyFitnessPal, along with the calories needed to reach the goals you set when joining the program.

Last several days I've been walking 4,000-8,000 steps with my Fitbit which is connected to my MFP. It awards me exercise calories. I don't eat them, but it's nice to see a number there.

Yesterday I walked 6800 steps and MFP said I burned 500 calories. Kinda high to me tbh, but like I said, I don't eat my exercise calories anyway. Today I walked 4100 steps and burned....6 calories. Very strange. I was never good at math but if 6800 leads to a 500 calories burn....how does 4100 lead to a 6 calories burn?

I didn't change my settings, on MFP or fitbit. Nothing changed except the date.

After I added my water in for the day, my 6 calories turned into 0 calories. Zero. And of course, after completing my diary the "you're on track to lose x amount of weight in 5 weeks*" number went 7lbs higher because of the no logged exercise. So that was disheartening to see.

Anyone else experience this glitch and how do I make it go away??

Edit: now 45 minutes later, the calories in my exercise section say 40. I don't get it. Can anyone explain this? Why the bouncing around?

In the last few days (2 or 3) in my diary the exercise calories don't show. Not sure why, or why all of a sudden. Any help you can give me?

See my post from last night on the issues forum. Seems like there is a major glitch in the exercise section. Not all users are experiencing it though.

I'm sitting at 2005 steps for the day and 0 calories burned for it. Thanks MFP.

But you are not alone in this. I don't have a fix for you however.

Oddly enough, my activity tracked via Samsung Galaxy is being counted two or three time per day. While I doubt it's stealing from Apple users to add to Samsung ;), it's weird to have two such opposite issues.

You get calories only for activity that exceeds your chosen activity level.

Also: be mindful of those calories burned by walking are gross numbers (including BMR) or net numbers (excluding BMR calories). If it's gross calories burn, it's normal to not see it all in the adjustment (avoiding double counting BMR calories).

Thirdly, I've read on multiple occasions that Apple doesn't sync well with MFP (Apple apparently doesn't send over the right number) so that might be another explanation.
