@kathrynbradshaw2280 I am moving this to one of the help board because I think you will get more answers there.

can you give more information? What isnt working?

If you want to set a specific goal without going through the MFP setup, from your home screen, select more, select goals, select calorie & macro goals, you can enter the number you would like the calories sections there.

Option 1: Use the guided set up for MFP. Without knowing any more information about you (height, current weight, age, sex, goal weight, etc.)..... with only 1 stone to lose, you want to choose the least amount per week to lose (which in MFP's guided set up is 0.5lbs [or whatever that equivalent is in kg] per week). So, you put in your current stats, tell MFP you want to lose weight, when asked choose the lowest option, and it will give you your daily calorie goal. That will be already set to a deficit from what you maintenance level calories are (based on your personal stats). Log your intake (food) as accurately as you can without being crazy about it and log your intentional cardio activity as accurately as you can too. Eat what MFP tells you to eat....and weigh yourself after ~3-4 weeks and make any adjustments as necessary --- because the calorie goal MFP gives you is *just an estimate* and you may have to make some tweaks.

Option 2: You can use a Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) calculator to figure out what your maintenance calories are - and then create a *small/manageable* deficit from there and manually put a calorie goal into MFP.

** when MFP and a TDEE calculator as you for your 'activity level' they mean different things. MFP means your lifestyle/job (not intentional exercise)....a TDEE calculator does include intentional exercise --- so there can be some adjustments with whether or not you log your cardio in MFP depending on how you decide to do it.

Like others, I'm not sure how to interpret your post.

If the problem is that you aren't able to hit your calorie goal exactly, then the answer is that you don't need to be exact. Shoot for within maybe +/- 50 calories of goal, and even that can be on average over a week, with more variation day to day.

You can also work your way to goal calories gradually by logging your eating, reviewing your log, and deciding on changes on eating habits going forward. Keep reviewing and adjusting until you're close to goal on average, consistently.
